Montreal fans boo American Anthem

I think this is totally classless and rude of the montreal fans who did this. Can't they distinguish between american players from the american government? If I was one of the american players I would have put my middle finger up to the crowd.

Was it the Habs game thursday? I was there, but I missed the anthems. Was the first time I attended an NHL game since 1995, and probably the last time for a really long time.

First of all, the national anthem isn't played to represent american players, it's there to represent the team.

Secondly, the national anthem and the flag are the most significant symbols of a country. Therefore, the Montréal fans probably weren't booing the players, but (obviously) the war in Iraq.

I'd also like to add that if you don't like a country's policies, it's preferrable to boo the national anthem rather than bomb that country in my opinion, don't you think Nel?

I remember during last year's playoffs, Montréal-Boston, they asked players to tape messages that were played before the anthems asking the crowd not to boo. I think the Montréal fans booed the US anthem after the US military killed 4 canadian soldiersin Afghanistan and the Boston fans only replied to that by doing the same, but I'm not sure that is the actual reason, I can't remember.

I just think there is a better way then to disrespect the National Anthem by booing it. It just strikes so Anti-American to me. Now I'm not defending in anyway when the Canadian National Anthem got booed too. The people who did that are just as disrespectful. But oh well, thats people for you I guess.

Like Long_Long_Name said, they are OBVIOUSLY booing because of the war. I've never heard any booing of the American national anthem any other time.

But remember last year in the NBA, when Detroit fans booed the Canadian national anthem, twice? It was a big story in Canada at the time.

However unfortunate these acts are, they do not in any way represent an entire country, just a few people in a building. I know I wouldn't boo any national anthem, even if everyone else around me was.

I don't condone the anthem booing at all, however I find absolutly amazing that the NHL Front Office considered baning anthems becuase of this incident. The Canadian anthem has been booed on many occasions, but did the NHL actually publicly consider baning anthems? No, of course not.

I know exaclty why those fans booed, it's becuase they don't support the war. Is there a better way to express their opinion? Most definitly, but I know exactly how they feel.

If you don't like the war or support it, so be it. But to boo a countries national anthem is just plain stupid.

Show a little respect? mmmm k?

I think the canadien fans were just upset that their Habs are going to miss the playoffs.

Either way, while it was classless, americans have done the same thing. We're just as bad, just as embarrasing.

I wish I wasn't late and didn't miss the National Anthems.

I've always considered them to be unnecessary, they never should be played at sporting events other than Internationbal Competitions imo.
