When you make a mistake
Baseball players get charged with errors.
We all make mistakes sometimes in our OOTP worlds. I made one a few days ago, and the result was so goofy I had to share it with you. Had started a new historical 1941 league, and by Sept 1 thought the HR were a bit low, so went into the modifiers to make a slight change. But I accidently changed 2700 Hr to 29000 HR. The modifier didnt change so there were no more HR, but the hits just went through the roof. Look at the game scores in September. They are like football scores. Can you imagine watching a 43-40 baseball game, and it was 39-38 going into the top of the 9th. What are some of your errors? |

I've made plenty of mistakes, some of which I've reported here before:
I forgot to hire a new trainer when the previous one retired and ended up with nearly the entire starting lineup on the DL before I discovered it. I once tried to set the ticket price to $10.00 and ended up setting it to $1000 instead. The owner wasn't too pleased about our attendance that year, but surprisingly, the bottom line didn't seem to suffer that much. When I'm preparing for the rule 5 draft I examine my minor league rosters looking for players that need to be put on the 40-man roster to protect. But several times I've failed to look at the disabled list and end up losing a valued prospect that was hiding out over there. And I've also made the mistake a few times of failing to turn off 7-day lineups after Spring Training (I like to use them for Spring Training). If I forget to turn them off, my lineup gets totally messed up for the regular season and the team severely underperforms. SInce I sim mostly and only rarely play out games, it's this underperformance midway through the season that is my first inkling of the mistake and results in a slapped sinciput. |

I effed up my Rookie League modifiers for one season and had basketball scores. There was nothing I could do about it once the season started. I just had to live with it and look past the players' stats for one season.

I don't use 7-day line-ups - I set my depth charts with everybody getting in the games every 2nd, 3rd and 4th game plus playing players out of position in the hope that they learn or improve at another position. And I also sim most of the time ... and all of a sudden one or two weeks into the season I notice that I didn't set it up for the regular season

Ah that's right now-a-days. A few versions ago you could leave players on the DL in the off-season. Whew. At least I won't have to worry about that one anymore. |

Same problems with forgetting to change the lineups/depth charts after spring training.
Have also (more than once) forgotten to sign my draft picks... have a tendency to quit after the draft (sometimes they take a long time) and forget when i load back up next time to sign them |

Mine tends to be forgetting to offer extensions to my minor league coaches, then having them leave en masse at the end of the season (it's happened more than I care to admit). I try to use the mid-season feedback from the owner as the time when I extend everyone.

You guys are better than me; I just blow up the league and start again, tell myself “Don’t do that again, hopefully lesson learned...”.
![]() Blown up my leagues than I can count. Less in 19 than 18 which was less than 17 etc. |

I have done individual player strategies for pitchers in ST and forgot to change them in the regular season. All of my starters were hooked at 50 pitches for a few weeks. It happened more than once in an online league. Season did not start well and my bullpen was pummeled.

I've changed a fifth starter as a reliever in the playoffs and then forgotten to change him back the next season. Or I've forgotten to change a starter into a reliever for the playoffs and he can't pitch as often.

In commissioner mode, right click a player to make a roster move and delete them by accident. Grrrrrrrrr

You mean like forgetting to change your rotation back from 3 man, which I run in the playoffs, in the start of the next season, autoplay a bit, and end up with 4 starting pitchers on the DL? I...won't admit to having done it, but let's just say it happened and I was present...

Me too as to 7-day lineups. I joined an online league once... and didn't even know they existed. The prior player had them set up, and by the time I figured it out after a couple of sims I had 3+ injuries

One draft day three rounds went by before I realized that the list I was looking at was sorted by "batters" rather than "all players." I thought it was odd that there were so few pitches worth a darn, even by the second round.... Needless to say I missed a bunch of pitchers who've been better big leaguers so far than the guys I did take.

Here's another one: After painstakingly figuring out who to pick in the draft, I go try to click and drag the guy down to the draft box, but my mouse-eye coordination isn't so good and I end up dragging down a completely random player and drafting him instead.
After this happened a couple times, I've now gotten in the habit of checking to see that I've dragged down the right player before hitting the draft button. This also happens to me when setting lineups and depth charts, but at least there, the consequences aren't so dire. |
