Shift question

Hey, in real life or in OOTP, does one play an infield shift with a runner on first?

I score games at AA Trenton and I see shifts in all base running situations.

IRL teams will shift with men on 1st and depending on the shift they will also shift with runners on 2nd and or 3rd. It all depends on the shift they are doing and the ability to cover all the bases.

I do in OOTP, mostly when the batter is extreme pull and especially lefty v righty. Setting the IF to DP depth seems to result often in IF hits against pull hitters. Pretty sure this is happening in RL also but not certain.

As others noted yes shifts are done in both real life and OOTP with runner on first. OOTP even has a...
"shift right and cover third base option" in the drop down. I think that is pretty cool

... just saw the Giants put on a hard shift left with a runner on first v Mets (lefty pitching to righty). Nice to see my OOTP strategy validated in RL

So when would you use that? Pull hitter up, runners on first and second?

I use it if there's a good bunter. Don't want him to lay one down the 3b line and everybody is safe.
