This for Matt Bowman ... crazy trading block returns
I am in the offseason before the 2021 season for my St. Louis Cardinals, who just won their 12th World Series championship.
Looking to unload some bullpen clutter, I placed Matt Bowman on the trading block. The 29-year old Bowman (2.5 stars/2.5) is coming off a season where he was 3-2 with a 4.30 ERA in 54 games. The previous two OOTP seasons, he sub-2.75 ERA and probably performed better than his real life version. He is making $3 million coming off arbitration. Anyway, I expected to get some minor league fodder for him. Instead, I get offered, among others, James Paxton, Gerrit Cole and Tommy Kahnle. Paxton is a 3.5/3.5 starting pitcher who the Reds just signed this season to a two-year deal worth $32 million and is listed as their No. 1 starter. Gerrit Cole (3 stars), who pitched fairly well for the Cardinals in 2020, also signed a two-year deal worth $22 million to be the No. 1 starter for the Nationals. Kahnle is a 3.5-star closer who the Dodgers just signed yesterday, yes yesterday (in OOTP time) for a three-year contract totaling $34. Oh yes, the Phillies offered Madison Bumgartner too. Teams are willing to deal big time-starters, some of whom they just signed, for Matt Bowman? I don't feel right pulling the trigger on any of these. Insane. |

If it makes you feel any better, I never get any of those type offers. It’s your call. But i agree, I’m real life teams would never deal a guy they just signed to a FA deal

I'm with Sowega. The only way I would be offered players like that is if they were 36 and had 5yrs/$30M per year remaining.
