Question about backing up saved games, what are the .lg files referring to?

I'm looking to delete some of the icons in the .lg folder in order to reduce disk space and make the process of transferring my league files for backups go faster. But I want to know what these icons are first so that I don't corrupt my league file. I can't find anything in the manual that explains it. Specifically, what do the icons in the news (league, players, and teams) folders referring to? What is the difference between txt and the html folders?

I would like to get rid of the box scores, replays, highlights, news articles transactions logs from past seasons but keep the league and team history and player stats.

.lg is just an 'extension' like exe or cfg.... it is a directory, though, not a file. ".lg" just lets signifies something to OotP the game.

while you can delete stuff directly form .lg directories, i wouldn't suggest it without a backup. make sure it still works etc... txt/html - guessing: html is a framework and inserts text to various variables from those txt files. random / unique id? whatver. never looked into them much. i think you can delete news and such.. box scores etc.. but becareful.

anyway, in game settings you can turn off creation of box scores and such. that's your first stop.

i'd also check out the players and face gen settings tab, if that's not the same location. turn off pictures, if you want. that will save a good amount of diskspace too.

when you click backup, it copies files in an incremental manner -- i.e. since your last backup. so, it shouldn't make a huge difference unless you play long periods between backups. (full copy is the full backup option)

fwiw, as of ootp18, even turning that stuff off it still creates it. i still have thousands of messages and it's not supposed to keep any of that junk. i never read it, i wish i coudl turn that nonsense off but i can't. just wasted cycles. maybe it just has a "year's" worth and it overwrites? i like box scores but i don't like the fake news articles. ffs, real sports writers are horrendous journalists, let alone a game's rendition of that, lol.
