Free agent salary bug

Dear OOTP,

So, there was Andrew Miller still available a week into the 2019 season and the main free agent screen said he wanted 6 million. So I thought, what the heck, I'll sign him and send one of my lesser relievers packing.

But when I went to offer the esteemed Mr. Miller a contract, he suddenly wanted $24 million, which would explain why he wasn't signed. That means we have two problems.

1. The obvious contradiction.

2. Mr. Miller makes a scant $9 million a year right now (though he's in the final year of a four-year contract), and MLB's highest paid relievers - Aroldis Chapman and Wade Davis - make about $17.3 million. Nobody is going to sign a $24 million reliever.

Thank you!

Jeff

The free agent screen reflects his original demand, not any offers that may be pending under consideration. My guess is a team has offered considerably more than market value and, greedily, he’s waiting for better offers like yours. Likely you can offer him less, but the overvalued ship has probably sailed.

Dear End,

No, this is a bug. We are now 10 games into the season and Miller is still unsigned. And instead of his salary demands going down, they're going up! He's now at $27 million.

Does he say that he received an offer from another team when you go to offer the contract? If so, it should mean he's in a bidding war, and that seems to happen when a few teams have a lot of budget room and not many other options available.

Tim,

He has no other offers and the main free agent screen asking price just dropped to $5.5 million, but when you offer Mr. Miller a contract he's asking for $29 million.

How do you know he has no other offers?

Tim,

1. If he had other offers his main free agent screen asking price would not have dropped from $6 million to $5.5 million. It would've gone up.

2. I saved the game, backed it up, met his asking price and he signed with me in a flash. Then I exited the game without saving, loaded the saved one etc.

This is a bug.

I actually have seen the asking price shown on the free agent screen keep dropping over time while players are in a long bidding war, usually with me. So that screen doesn't tell you if there's a bidding war. I think you have to click the offer contract button to see if the player mentions other interest in him.

I think there's a possibility that reloading the backup could change team's interest interest in players, potentially making you the only bidder and so the player accepts easily. So I wouldn't be convinced it's a bug just because it seemed to have went away with a restore.

Tim,

Sorry not to be clear. I didn't restore, I simply exited the game without saving and loaded it back to where it was before signing Miller.

There is no bidding war. IT'S A BUG!

good idea is to zip your files and send them to OOTP so the the developers can look and see what's going on specifically and why. it may be your game, or it may be a wider bug, but they'll need the files to figure it out. The how to do this is in this link:

good luck and hope this gets things resolved,
