Is the AI managing my Spring Training Strategy?

I am GM and manager for my team and my name is listed for every decision on the manager options tab.

Under team strategy, I have pinch hitting for position players set to never. Yet, in spring training games, the AI has already pinch hit 23 times in 8 games.

Along with that, I have substitutions set to never in the first 7 innings, and enabled defensive subs only under set conditions, yet the AI is making subs as early as the 6th inning.

Any thoughts on where I can look to correct this condition?

ST strategy is different in OOTP just as it is IRL. PH is common in ST as starters rarely play entire games. I'd like it to be more realistic ie more PH and more/earlier subs.

ST has a mind of its own, yes... you are not going crazy.

even with gm-legacy mode and total control over every aspect of your team, unless you play ST games out, it does as it wants. i'm not even certain depth chart days off matter at this point, lol. subs are used as the ai pleases, i think.

--not a complaint, whatsoever... i'm sure if they are a starter on depth chart that they get enough AB/IP to knock offseason rust off with default settings... if not, that'd be my complaint.

So far as I can see, the AI does a good job of handling Spring training. Everybody who has even a remote chance of making the cut gets a reasonable amount of playing time. I always set a six-man rotation with strict order. Nothing further seems necessary.

Thanks for the input. It made me look further.

Being a control freak, I have now found that telling the game not to never use pinch hitters or substitutions in the Team strategy menu doesn't work. At least, not in ST. What does work in ST is clicking on each player under player strategy and telling the AI not to pinch hit for that player. It appears that I have to manage all the players directly as opposed to using the team menu or I end up with my catcher playing second, my SS in LF, etc.

I typically keep a small ST squad so there cannot be that many substitutions. I might bring like an extra 5 guys up.

Especially if I want someone who is on my 40 man to learn a def spot and get a little jump start.

But yeah I noticed if you have 40+ on your ST its a free for all battle royal.
