Trades With AI GMs

I'm brand new to the game ('19) and working through my first season...almost halfway through.

I have a couple of trade questions:

1. How do multi-player deals get made...or do they? I've had "GM's" contact me with a trade offer. It's always one of their minor league player (usually decent) for one of my best mlb-level players.

I get why they are offering, but of course I'm not going to accept so little in return. So I try and be realistic, look through their minor's and add one other good piece... immediately the GM say "you've got the be kidding, this will never work."

So I hit "make this work" assuming that I'll get a list of players back to choose from...you know a back and forth negotiation. Instead, I always get "you have no players that can make this work."

WTF?? I'm a not so good, re-building team. How am I ever going to make re-building trades? Or hell... how do you make trades at all?

2. Same premise... GM says, I think you'll like this young player. Offer me something for him. You offer one of your decent players, and they laugh at you. You click "make this trade work" and you get the "no players" message.

Then why did you offer the player to me, if I have "no players" that will work for you?

Any help on this frustrating matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

1) What are your trade settings?
2) Is scouting on? If so I would recommend setting it to 100% or turning it off. The game has a steep curve with accurate information. The fog of war scouting provides can take the fun away.
3) Do you have a plan for what you are trying to acquire?
4) I will go to all MLB players listed and check Include Minors. I will scroll through each position looking for players that I like. I then try to set up deals for them. They rarely work because I am tying to trade for some of the top players. What it does is gives me some familiarity with the teams, rosters and finances of the league.
Then I start looking for players I think I have a shot at. I usually pay more than I want and sometimes I WAY overpay... but I have to have that hot corner all star with a power bat sometimes.

Thank you for the feedback.

1. I know that trade setting is "difficult" or whatever they list for "hard." I tried to change but it won't let me. How do I change that...or is it only changeable before the season starts?

2. What's the value of scouting on? Conversely, if I turn it off, what else might be affected.

3. You said you've pulled some trades. Have you ever pulled off a multi-player trade?

4. What's the point of the "make this trade work" if the computer never comes up with options?

If this feature isn't more useable/realistic, this game will lose it's appeal of reality very quickly.

If you cannot change the trade difficulty you may be in Challenge Mode. I have not played that mode but I think it locks in some settings. The harder trade difficulties are difficult to pull off a deal.
You may need to try the game in a non-challenge mode so you can adjust settings.
Scouting is an aesthetic. You do not get accurate information about players ratings or overall rating. Turning it off or setting it to 100% accurate gives you correct information.
I do not think 3+ way trades work.
Make this trade work has worked for me in the past. If the other team makes an offer then that is probably the one that works. I have often used it to see if the AI and I are close to a deal. If they are still asking for players I am not giving up then it is usually off to the next team.

3. Literally thousands.

4. The AI will never suggest multiple players. You must add a player to the trade and press "make this trade work" again to see what other players could complete the trade. Then you can add one of the acceptable players and pull the first player off the board, using "make this trade work" to see more options. You may need three, four, or even five players in combination to acquire star players - especially young and/or controlled star players.

And just to further clarify what others have said here: multiple player deals are common (even, in my experience, the norm) while multi-team deals (3 or more teams involved in one simultaneous transaction process) are not yet supported in the game.

But as Orcin said, the starting point, at least when you are not initiating the trade, is always going to be one-for-one. But that is only where the negotiation starts. It certainly does not need to be where it ends. I usually work through many permutations of a possible trade before finally settling on something that seems mutually agreeable. And I almost always try to get some money thrown in by the other team, if at all possible. (I tend to G.M./manage lower-budget teams with stingy owners and I'm always looking for any way to get a little more financial wiggle-room.)

Well, I'm obviously doing a lot of things wrong. Someone mentioned me being in "Challenge Mode." How can I tell if I am? Can I change that?

I've put a lot into this team, I'd hate to have to scrap the game and start over. At the same time I need to figure out/adjust this trade thing.
