I set up a solo league and set a salary cap of $60M. I then had the initial draft and was surprised to find that some of the computer teams went over the limit.
In searching this board, I found a comment by Scott that says the salary cap doesn't work for computer run teams, that it was intended for on-line leagues. My question is, why isn't it coded that the computer teams have to stay within the cap and will this be something that can be added in a patch or in v5? |

I have never used the salary cap but I think that teams are allowed to go over the cap in the initial draft but then later on they are not allowed to resign players or sign free agents if they are over the cap. Hope this helps and maybe someone with more experince using the cap can elaborate on what I said.

The cap is not used during the initial draft. If it was you'd see a lot of teams not able to finish the draft because of the players.
After the draft you can set your cap. Some teams maybe over the draft, that's ok, they will not be allowed to increase salary and will hold off on signing free agents, etc. until they are back under the cap. (Usually takes only one season, sometimes takes two if the team is very much over the cap). A word of caution if you set the cap too low some decent players will go unsigned during the Free Agency period, but they should be signed after the period ends when the drastically reduce their demands (they do reduce their demands as time goes on in free agency, but if they go unsigned they'll take a small, one year contract (they shouldn't accept a multi-year deal)). |
