Why is Vlad eligible for the Rule 5 draft?

Three years of minor league service, 19 years old.

Quote:
A player not on a team's secondary roster is eligible for the Rule 5 draft if the player was age 18 or younger when he first signed a contract and this is the fourth Rule 5 draft since he signed, OR if he was age 19 or older when he first signed a contract and this is the third Rule 5 draft since he signed.
If he's 18, he was signed when he was 15. This should give him 4 years before he's eligible.

Because this will be the 4th rule 5 draft since he signed?

he's got enough for "4" years. i think that stuff updates jan 1st?

172 is the required # or is it 176? he's got enough, either way. (check settings, default is real mlb # of service days too, if you know it offhand)

i don't think ootp has the under 19 over 19 rules... if you sign a IAFA via normal means, the first year doesn't count in the international complex. i think that's their ~equivalent.

i would assume they accrue 1 year if you immediately send to rookie or higher? i'm sure i've done it at least once, but dont recall specifics.

Take control of Blue Jays and put him on 40 man or even change to 70.

I'm curious what the Orioles gave up to get him? I don't think there's a player on their roster that the Jays would give up Vlad for.

The game is correct. He would be Rule 5 eligible at season's end, no matter what farm system he was in, if not on their 40-man roster.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Selection eligibility
Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization's 40-man roster and:

were 18 or younger on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is the fifth Rule 5 draft upcoming; or
were 19 or older on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is the fourth Rule 5 draft upcoming.
These exemption periods (one year longer than those in effect previously) went into effect as part of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in October 2006. The change took effect immediately, exempting many players from the 2006 Rule 5 draft even though they had been signed in some cases more than four years before the new agreement came into effect. Prior to the rule change, players were exempt from the first two or three Rule 5 drafts held after their signing (regardless of the year they were drafted), rather than from the first three or four Rule 5 drafts after their signing.
From BBRef Bullpen:
Quote:
The Rule 5 Draft is held annually during baseball's Winter Meetings. Teams must file a 40-man roster with the league office by November 20th. Any player who fits all of the criteria below is eligible for the Rule 5 Draft:

Player is not on the 40-man roster
Player has been in the minor leagues for at least 4 years if he was signed after age 19 (was 3 years before the 2006 CBA).
Player has been in the minor leagues for at least 5 years if he was signed before age 19 (was 4 years before the 2006 CBA).
So, in this scenario, Vlad is at the end of third year (entering his third Rule 5 Draft) opportunity.

So, again, why is he Rule 5 eligible? What am I missing?

From OOTP's rules:
Quote:
Rule 5 Draft Eligibility
A player is eligible for the Rule 5 draft if he meets the conditions listed below. Follow the links to learn more about some of the terms used below:

The player has at least three but fewer than six years of professional service time, and the player was age 19 or older when he first signed a contract.
The player is not on the team's secondary roster.
Note: Players who were age 18 or younger when they entered the league are eligible if they have at least four, but fewer than seven years of professional service time. In other words, young players get an extra year before they become eligible for the Rule 5 draft.

OK, thanks to the comments here I figured it out.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm transitioning a human league from another game. When I inputted rosters I put in our league's service time. I then turned off development and simmed until I got to 2018-19 offseason. I then wiped out history.

Major League and 40-Man time is available in days in the export. I was able to set this properly. Pro years is tracked in years in the export. The days for a season are not available in the export. The game updates the pro years on January 1st as No One said (and I just simmed to confirm), so all my minor leaguers were getting an extra year of service added.

I can fix this with another export/fix/import.

Of course, the game still has the pre-2006 rules in place so I'm going to have to handle the Rule 5 process offline if I want the current rules for my league.

I've been amazed at how wonderful this community is in helping new players. Thanks for your help!

fwiw, it says 3years 176days (before jan 1st) in the screenshot above. as long as that number of days in current season exceeds the minimum, it's an accrued year (no more than 1 in a year).

if you regularly export this stuff... make the exported file a linked worksheet that isn't to be edited... copying it using a linked cell like "A1=exportworksheet.A1" and using the click-drag-fill function for all columns and rows to a seperate worksheet you can dink around with, and not have to recreate it each time for use.

for example in this case, since it exports in days, you can add a little formula that converts it to years for your viewing pleasure. each time you export and load up the spreadsheet, it will auto-update all the links with the new information.
