How is this possible?
I was going thru some of the Royals minor leaguers and was checking out SP Josh Staumont. In one game, these stats were given:
The NWA Naturals lost to the Springfield Cardinals 6-1, but...... Staumont - 6IP 3H 1R 1ER 2BB 11SO Loss How does he get the loss of a 6-1 game when he only gave up a run in six innings??? Am I missing something here??? |

Staumont gives up a run, leaves after 6 innings with his team down 1-0, the relievers allow more runs so that his team never evens the score. I.e.:
After 6 innings: 1-0 Cardinals After 7+ innings: N-0 Cardinals, N>1 Later that inning: N-1 Cardinals After 9 innings: 6-1 Cardinals. Staumont was pitching when the Cardinals took the lead, so he gets the loss. If this were hockey, it wouldn't be the "game-winning run", but in baseball, he gets the loss. |

Classic example of why pitcher Wins and Losses is a very overrated evaluation of them

![]() ![]() ![]() This should tell you how chaotic my life is! I should've picked up on that easy. That's elementary! You'll excuse me now...I shall banish myself to the underbelly of Kauffman Stadium ala Phantom of the Opera. |
