Career interrupted by Military service

I want to mirror the interruption to careers caused by players who were in the services during WW1 or WW2. As I understand it, if I customise the Injuries file, they would stay on the roster, taking up a spot - there's a 60-day DL, but not a 4-Year DL! I wondered if I retired the player, then unretire him when he comes back, placing him on his original team, would his career stats pick up again from that point? I could then edit his History with an explanation.

You can just put those guys on the 60-day DL with a 4 year injury. Even though the DL is 60 days, that's just a minimum. They'll stay on the DL for as long as the injury takes to "heal". We do this in the modern roster set with Korean guys when they serve their two year military service and it works ok as a workaround. The only thing is that the game might sometimes make them much more injury prone or give them a setback that results in their staying "injured" even longer. But that can always be fixed in commish mode, in the editor.

Just had another thought: what happens to their contracts? So, if, say, they have a 2 year contract and are away for 4 years, will they be Free Agents when they come back?

Yes. That's another thing you'd have to adjust in the editor
