So he is satisfied with my job at upgrading the shortstop position and doesn't have "too much trouble" with Carmona manning the position but one of my goals for the new year is to upgrade the shortstop position...

He still wants a top-6 shortstop, but he accepts that you made some improvement.

depending on your AI evaluation numbers, a improved season from your current SS counts as an upgrade if he reach top 6 status by season end.

I dont see the confusion at all. He prefer a potential all star at SS but he's ok with your current guy.
