Rule 5 draft problem

I'm in an online league that switched to 19 after the season ended. But we have a problem with the Rule 5 draft pool - it is significantly incomplete, many eligible players are in the pool. We tried cancelling and rescheduling with the same result. We never had this problem in several seasons in 18. Anyone else see this happen in either an online or a solo league?

In OOTP 19 I’ve seen players who shouldn’t have been in the rule 5 pool in there. One bad example was a really good young SS on the Phillies. He was on their 40 man roster (and he actually played in the majors briefly the previous year) but he showed up in the rule 5 pool anyway. One of the other AI teams stole him from Philadelphia.

I'm seeing lots of players who should not be in the Rule 5 draft listed as eligible, many with less than 3 years of professional service listed in game.

I'm not entirely sure what the pattern is, but those originally in the interational complex or released from a team seem to be more likely to be eligible.

Attached is a screenshot of one of the guys on my team.

They will be eligible for the draft if you signed them as a minor league fa. Matt had mentioned that in another post.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is that a MLB rule or simply a game mechanic?

This may have to be looked at because there are two different phases in the rule 5 draft...Matt mentioned that he read the rule of players being released then signed to another team may be eligible for Rule 5 draft but I am willing to bet that they are eligible for the minor league phase and not the MLB phase...

Another thing is that Ive also read that players are only eligible if they havent spent any time on a 40 man roster during their 4-5 years in the minors. Not sure if this is true or not but I do not recall any former MLB players being selected in the rule 5 draft, which can happen in OOTP.

Rule 5 has been broken since release day, but if you hold your breath for them to acknowledge and fix it you're seemingly going to pass out.

It's amazing how you still play this game with the amount of constant crying you do about it. If everything is "abysmal" just go play The Show

Not to worry, there's plenty of OOTP can do no wrong to counterbalance my honesty.

More than once. Not only has it not been fixed, they haven't acknowledged it and the OOTP 'fans' have drowned out the posts with their this game is amazing posts around it.

Is the game amazing? The UI is. Under the hood its worse than previous versions.

A good example. At least 10 guys just signed as FA

but the AI does not release other players to make room in the 40 man roster for these newly signed FAs.

Instead of asking for files, just look at the numerous examples that have been posted of it occurring, and fix it.

It's very frustrating and a game breaker.

Who are the newly signed FA cannot tell that from your screenshot? Did they sign mil contracts?

All the ones that are listed as R (DSL) that have recognizable names.

Did they sign mlb contracts or milb contracts with option for 30 day release. Also remember the game does not know names just ratings.

I just got to my rule 5 draft and the only thing I see is minor league free agents that would get guaranteed contracts if on 40 man roster. My guess is the players you are seeing are fringe mlb players based on the AI, which is why they havent been added to the 40 man roster.

Why would the Phillies sign Austin Maddox and then NOT put him on the 40 man roster? I'd be more inclined to agree with you if ALL of these players weren't in the Dominican Summer League. They were signed but never moved.

It's not right and it is not functioning properly. Also, it did not do this last year.

The thread (and others) goes into great detail about what is occurring. In other threads, many other people have mentioned issues. I've not even mentioned in this thread the fact that the AI selects players in the Rule 5 that make NO logical sense for them to. A ball hitters that hit .240 being selected by championship level teams.

The entire Rule 5 'experience' is just broken. I guess I'll just have to disable it if I start up a new franchise as they obviously are not going to fix this this version.
