What Makes an Amateur Impossible to Sign?

Is there any guide on the factors, or any we might know about (like a player only wants to sign with a large market team or some such)?

There also doesn't seem to be a commissioner mode hack to make them sign, so I'm curious if there is or not.

The hack is just adding them to your team. Would be nice for a force sign button so it shows up in history, until then just add them to your team

Pretty sure that most of the time "impossible" just means that unless they get some outrageous offer, they are heading to college instead of to a minor league system.

I had Ethan Hankins want a bonus of over $20m, I offered 27m and he turned it down.

Hoping his arm turns to slag in my game. Karsten Whitsen style.

It's almost entirely HS players who will go to college unless you give them some crazy amount of money. Happens in real life every year. There's always half a dozen or so players (probably more), per team, that don't sign with the team that drafted them and return to school.

Only thing with that in OOTP is - at least with feeders - unsigned players sit out a year and re-enter the draft next year. So no college for unsigned players. Wish they would fix that.

With no college stats?

My guess is some of them may elect to test the market after a year, whereas others would stay in.

I guess this is one area that needs some work and probably would be a good deal "of work" to get squared away.

As to college, you would need the following:
% of guys who just don't go and sit out a year.
% of guys who go less than the full 4 years (and then the game would need to generate stats, and develop them....that might be a bear, without actually having a college sim league, but there might be a short cut).
% of guys who do actually finish out their college years.

Of course, there would need to be some variability in all this, but these %s would need to somewhat reflect the actual %s that we see in this type of scenario for college election. That data must be around somewhere.

I may have heard that one day, the would develop a college level system, that can't be controlled by the players, I guess, and is overlaid or feeds into the feeder leagues or draft.

I'm not sure that is needed candidly, as this is already a complex program. I'd rather see just something that develops / sims these guys in college. It could behave somewhat like how the international complex works in actual game terms, but without any player input.

You mean without feeders? That’s been fix this year. Whenever a HS player doesn’t sign and go to college, he will return 3 years later unless it’s mention that he went to JuCo which will result in him returning next year...Unfortunately, there is no way currently for the game to separate JuCO schools from NCAA schools so you may see a player spend one year in college at a D1 school...

No, with feeders. If that change was promised, it's not working. See
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=288054

There's another thread in the bug form too that went unaddressed regarding this.

With feeders I regularly see unsigned HS draftees go onto college and re-enter the draft based on college eligibility rules. I do see some of them missing a season of playing (see my response in the thread you refer to) but they do go on to play college ball. They will only go back into HS if they still meet the age requirements for the HS league which shouldn't happen if you use "after max age passed" in draft eligibility for the HS league.

Hankins didn't sign with me, went to college, and dropped from a 5* potential all the way to a 2* hahahaha
