Questions about reputation and modifiers
Hi, I have created a fictional universe where in addition to a big U.S.-based central league there are a number of international leagues based in countries where real-life baseball leagues exist. Before I can go any further, I think I need to wrap my head around league reputation and sabremetric player creation modifiers.
In OOTP context, what exactly is league reputation? Is it a number on a scale expressing the financial strength of the league, thus a desirable league for players to play in? Is it a number representing the talent in the league relative to other leagues? Is it both? Here are two league examples I have: Australia and Dominican Republic. In my world, Australia would be able to pay a higher salary than D.R (and it would accept a few foreigners)., but the talent in the league as a whole wouldn't be nearly as high as the Dominican. I imagine I should be setting the sabremetric modifiers higher for Dominican Republic, but what about league reputation? Would Australia be a higher reputation or lower? Does the reputation even MATTER? As for talent in Japan/Korea/Cuba/Dominican Republic/Venezuela, what might be reasonable sabremetric modifier settings for those leagues? Thanks! |

As I understand it, Reputation represents the league's attractiveness to players. Australia probably ranks well above the Dominican Republic in that respect.(better barbie!).
For sabremetric ratings, I suggest deciding what minor league level the foreign league compares to and using its ratings, e. g., AAA for Japan or Korea, Rookie for, say, France. |

That's all it does, and IIRC it basically doesn't matter how low leagues are related to the top league, unless you have a bunch of leagues. In other words if you have MLB at 10, Japan at 5, and the Pecos League at 1, it doesn't matter if Japan is 7 or 3 or 5. So unless you have 8 or more leagues don't waste much time deciding on rankings.
I think it also determines where leagues appear on the league pull-down menu(s).
