Question about controlling "Substitutions" in game

What exactly does that entail. Am i just subbing batters in and out of the lineup. Does it includes substituting pitchers? Also does it including bringing in guys to pitch run? What if I have it set for me to control the setting of substitutions and I end up simming a week or two. Will the AI take over with that duty or will no subs be made over that stretch because I don't have the AI set to do it?

While you are simulating the games, even a part of a game that you started managing, the AI assumes all functions.
