Not Sure If Bug or Cosmetic issue

As you can see, the ! icon is missing from the league and the number of emails are missing from the message area... and all three are just black voids. I do have custom award icons so have downloaded the ootp dark skin from addons central. Idk if something is missing from that file folder, as I have already checked the other 2 default skins and work correctly.

This has been reported elsewhere, so I am sure it's getting looked at.

My theory, which may not hold water, is that when you do custom skin images, make sure that you are working with the latest skin download at Add-Ons Central. I did player mood icons that way, erasing the old skin, installing a new post-patch version, and then doing my mood icon modification and I am not seeing any black boxes.

Anyway, stay tuned because you are not alone. The developers are on a well-deserved weekend break so we may see further word next week.

If Add Ons works, it may be the Steam Workshop files. I have been unable to download the PC stand-alone to test. If I can get my hands on those skin files I could at least compare files.

Yes, I should have added, and you clarified in another thread, eg, that I am a website game download player. I have not seen any black boxes after modding my skins.

Bru, how big is the skin file if you zip it? I’m impatient, obviously. Is it emailable? Could we Dropbox it or something?

I’m checking on another avenue, too.

I'll send you a PM with a link. Remember, this is the "second" version that I downloaded after the patch was released. Whether it was indeed a "second" version is just speculation on my part; an educated guess.

Nevermind it was just an issue with with which version of the skin I have... I deleted it, re-downloaded it, and now there's no problems

Aha! You see, that's what I was saying! The patch fixed/introduced some cosmetic things about the interface but all it does is to install its own versions of skin.bin for each skin.

When you go to mod the skins, I would think that you would need to download a new version of the skins files to go along with the patch. The developers are not explicit on this point but it stands to reason.

So, your black boxes are gone and I never had them because I worked with an updated version of the skins files? Maybe.

There will probably not be an official answer this weekend but endgame is looking at it, thanks be unto him.

Okay, drumroll..........

Downloaded the AOC dark skin files (thank you Bru). Put the zip in the Data file and unzipped it. Renamed my dark skin folder to old dark skin. Moved the new dark skin folder in its place. Reviewed the images and decided- having noticed there was no skin.bin file there and a rebuild would be mandatory -to go ahead with the mood icon and trophy substitution before booting up the game. I did. I booted.

Must be the Steam skin files, because.......
Oh, Yeah!

Moods and ! intact!!!

Bru, buddy, you've changed my whole weekend.

Seems like an easy fix to upload new files to steam...

I already have in our Tools section. How they change those or show me how I was doing something wrong remains to be seen. Aumakua, I can’t update the Workshop files, but if they need it, I’m sure it’ll happen when they get back, officially.

Still no fix for the black box issue?

is there anyway to update the skin files on Steam? I am pretty sure that is 100% the problem. To confirm this the steam files say March 19 was the last change to them (so nothing after patch) and before the patch that box was white with black numbers inside, now its red with white numbers, so skins were updated, just need a way for steam users to get the new ones.

when I ran the game after patch I got the normal red box/circle with white lettering for e-mail and award numbering, as soon as I re-downloaded the steam skin and installed it, black boxes came back.

My pleasure. I still think that I was onto something as described above. So much so that, after I upgrade to 19.3.44, the first thing I am going to do is to download yet another set of skins from Add-Ons Central, just in case, to use when I install my player mood icons mod.
