what do you look for in your Int'l Amateurs?

Being that they are so young, their potentials may be a bit lower, so what is important to you especially when considering giving a large contract?

total crapshoot, in my experience.

there will be some correlation to what you see, but it's just so inaccurate that it's hard to have any faith in those ratings that you see, initially.

i prefer quantity over quality in this 1 instance of ootp. buy as many as you can afford at a reasonable price...maybe splurge occasionally on 1 player etc.

i haven't played with the hard cap in place? is it a total of 5m or just a cap per player... if it's only a cap per player offere, then budget as muc as you can for int'l ama. FA as you can after you have your 25man + depth set in offseason .. should be plenty of time to set this budget after you complete these needs. budget as much as you can -- i never do july trades, but if oyu do, leave some space for that too.

just as a test, somethign i've been meanign to do in a throwaway league that mimics my settings:

go through editor and scroll through players with commisioner mode on just hte IAFA generated. then shortlist those that are ~okay.. maybe a second shortlist for jsut hte elite too. (elite first, observe, then the rest together and observe where they are in the sorted by potential list )

then look at full list sorted by potential and see where the chips fall with your regular scouting accuracy... first with just elites, then all together (make the fuller list after 1st observation, of course.

I'd also look at it as 2 lists of all batters and all pitchers... just in case resulting dynamics are different for each.

see any trend over time to act on? how stongly is potential correlated to actual ratings? ie how many capitalized names are at the top when sorted by potential.

after that you can make some good decisions based on real observances. it will take more than one year's data to know anythign concrete.

if you can sing 5-10+ guys in the middle vs 1 of the top guys, does that give you better odds of signing a vialbe MLB prospect? better odds of an elite prospect?

after that you can make real decisions that are best for your future.

all this does is hastent he learning process.. it will not be a magic bullet... you merely learn the best odds to play... no guarantees it works in any given year, but over time it does guarnatee the best possible outcomes.
