changing anouncer question

I changed the microphone picture for another picture like in the past . Deleted the skin.bin file and restarted the new picture is there but now the outs don't light up. this is since the last update , it worked fine before the update. Is any one else having this problem , is it something with the new red color. or you can't change the pictures now.

i start the game in Run as Administrator if you don't the picture change doesn't work. I wish they would just put into the game a way to change the microphone into a picture of an announcer maybe let us do it for each team

any help would be great

This is just a shot in the dark but here goes. I also tinker with some images in the skins (used to be award icons and other stuff but not in this version; now I am down to only player mood icons). Yes, you must delete the skin.bin file (actually, save it someplace just in case) and run the game as administrator in order to rebuild the file.

But here is the thought that occurred to me. You obviously know how to download and install the skin files from Add-Ons Central. The thing is, if you did that with the original release but did not do so again after the patch was installed, you may need to do so because it stands to reason that the patch included fixes that would require a fresh set of skin images and other files.

Give it a shot and let us know.

My pleasure. Yes, there is a separate link for downloading the skins but using Add-Ons Central usually works fine, if you remember to delete the previous skin folder and the previous download, come to think of it. That includes the tracking files in the downloads folder to make the game think that it has not been done previously.

All this is IIRC because I am at work. Always back up files and folders in this situation before proceeding.

Not a bad mood among us (yet), as you can see!

No, I did not have a problem because the first time I modded, there was no classic skin folder per se so when I downloaded the skin files, they were fresh. I did the same thing after the first patch because of what I said above; it stands to reason that a new set of skin files would be made available for this patch but I am not sure whether the patch would automatically overwrite the old skin files with them. So I made sure by wiping them out and starting fresh with a new skin file download.

It's been occurring to me whether that is the cause of some of those black box errors that we have been seeing since the patch came out.

I just love those icons.

So you’re saying default skin (no individual files - clean) download skin files, assuming they were updated for the patch, and you predict more likelihood of success?

Here's what I am saying. Let's say it's just after new game version release and I installed my mood icons as normal. Add-Ons Central is showing the skin files are installed, as indeed they are.

Let's say a patch is then released and it lists certain graphic changes which mean new image files and other related stuff. As you know, they throw in an altered default skin.bin file and you're good to go, usually.

Let's say, though, that you want to do your mod thing again. You go through the procedure but with the ORIGINAL skin files that were downloaded before the patch still in place. That could lead to trouble, I would think?

So what I did was to delete the contents of the classic skin folder and the skin.bin file. Then I went to where the first skin file had been downloaded; click OPEN DOWNLOADS FOLDER in Add-Ons Central for quick access - see first and second screen prints.

I deleted the download file. Then I went up one level and I deleted the add-ons and temp files which tell the game what has been downloaded (careful; I believe the game recreates these but back them up just in case) - see third screen print.

Now when I went back to Add-Ons Central and clicked RELOAD ADD-ONS LIST, the button next to "Skin files OOTP 19 Classic" was back to Download. From that point on, I repeated what I had done previously and it was fine. (The game must be running with administrator privileges, remember.)

endgame, you are a bigwig around here, hobnobbing with the gods of OOTPD all the time, I am sure. You've even flown to Hamburg and had beer, schnapps, and bratwurst with Mr. Heinsohn, I am sure. So, if you think what I am saying has some validity, maybe you would pass this along to them for consideration as to why some folks are having that black box problem if they downloaded and installed one of the original skins files?

Thanks. Trying. But among the mythos, I am Sisyphus.

Is your process all AOC or Steam as well?

Sisyphus, forgive me but I am not familiar with AOC. Below are the top choices at Acronym Finder and I don't play Age of Conan. Are you asking what type of OOTPB that I have? I have the web site download version, not Origin or Steam. However, I believe the same modding principles apply with at least the Steam version.

Now get back to rolling that giant baseball uphill for all of eternity! ()

Oh.

Well, what the heck is wrong with Acronym Finder? Our "AOC" should be at the top of the list!

Yes, this time I used AOC exclusively but I have done it manually in the past, too. Same procedure, really, whether the game does it or you do.

Your particular mood icon should be glowing with vibrancy and enthusiasm. You’ve been exceptionally effervescent as of late. If I were anyone but me, I’d be saying, “I’ll have whatever he’s having.” Thanks for the input.

I'm having a healthy dose of OOTPB and that is what you are having, too!
