Tips for scouting

Been playing OOTP since 13 and never really pinned down when to scout individual players or what doing so accomplishes. Sometimes I'll scout draft picks in the month lead up to draft day, but even then I'm not sure if I'm just giving myself extra work or not.

How do you all handle manual scouting assignments? Is it a waste of time, or a critical function of GMing that I've missed out on for years?

I never use it.. but maybe someone who does can give us some insight if it's worth it or not.

Scouting in OOTP always struck me as sort of strange as it's a much more critical and active feature in certain other sports management sims and seems like it would very naturally be so in a baseball sim, where scouting is a fundamental part of the game. Yet, it's all very passively done. I really like the improvements made in '19 in terms of making scouting data more accessible, but it still feels very under-the-hood.

same. whenever I did, it was always the same as the scouting report page so I gave up.

playing last night & there might have been a difference after requesting a report, I'll check on that when home. would be cool if more requests would lead to more detailed report.

I have definitely had instances where a player's performance isn't matching up with the report and I've requested a new scouting report and gotten new ratings back. I think it's already happened in the new game, too, mostly because I've been trying to use it more with the updated reports.
