Can this game be played with real stats from real players? And if you can is it a big hassel to do it? I just played the demo and all the players are fictional. Not sure if I want to purchase this game if you can't.

You can play with real players, but you have to download roster files or database files (for historical players) to do it. Setting them up once they are downloaded is a piece of cake.

I forgot to ask, is it easy to setup the use of pics of actual ballparks such as Fenway when simulating a series,season or just a game?

yes, you just put the image of the ballpark in the correct folder with the correct name, very simple.
