Prospects dropping in potential
I haven't played in a while but wanted to try it again and I have a question.
Why do prospects potentials and ratings drop randomly? I had a 4.5 star potential pitcher who was killing it in A and then AA but i made sure he was ready to be called up and I waited until he had about 100 games in him at AA and good numbers before I brought him to AAA. Then he was doing above average in AAA, but about 4 weeks later he went from a 4.5 star potential to a 1 star and it was like overnight. He was still doing pretty good stats wise, but his potential plummeted and I don't understand why. I've read some other posts of people complaining how some players just randomly drop in either potential or actual ratings. Is this a bug, design flaw or working as intended? I didn't call my pitcher up too early and he was still doing well. I just don't understand it. It absolutely killed the game for to see a decent pitcher just turn terrible (potential-wise) overnight. Welcome to baseball, where you can do everything right and still fail.
Btw, what’s your scouting settings? Could be that your scout had a bad report and that’s the most current one, or it could be that he was wrong all along. That’s also why you use should not give up on anymore that’s producing, even if the ratings aren’t too hot. Your scouts are fallible. They make mistakes. |

The same kind of thing can happen when ratings are set to accurate. I consider it a feature, not a defect.
Plenty of players look great until faced with major league pitching. Consider Marvelous Marv. |

No I understand you guys, but it's just strange that I had 3 kids that had 4+ stars potential all turn out to be duds. Was just curious is all.

The star rating can be very misleading and you should promote/judge performance based off of... well, performance. Many times the AI will give a player a 5 star potential rating because they are fast and play a bunch of different positions. That's great, except when all of their potential batting ratings are max at 30/80. That is why you see a lot people on here going the "stats only" route. You don't have all this extra "bling" throwing off your evaluation of player performance. |

Stats are way greater than ratings. If the player is still putting up good stats dont worry about it. Chances are as the player moved up scouts noticed flaws in his play and the ratings adjusted accordingly. Sometimes the stats drop off sometimes they dont. If the player keeps performing his ratings will likely rebound. Ive had plenty of players go from 4-5* players then drop to 1-2* players then level off at 2.5-3* players once they stuck around.
If that kind of thing bugs you id suggest just turning off overall potential numbers/ stars. I play without them when i play solo gams. I find get way more out of the game as i actually have to start looking at what type of player a guy is and what hes done rather than just looking at one overall number and looking for upgrades. |
