Rookie league issue; did i F up???? (probably)

I'm running an expansion team. In the 3rd round of the amateur draft, I took a pitcher who had great batting potential and a rating in the OF; I converted him to RF, and he's on my rookie squad. I just checked on him...12 games in, he's hitting .150 and is exhausted....because he's pitched 8 games / 27 innings!!! turns out, I had no pitchers on my rookie team. I just filled it w/ fictional players, but a lot of those pitchers don't have pitching rating.

Question....did I screw up? Isn't there a way to allow my rookie teams to run without enough players and not have my existing guys do everything? I hope I didnt' screw him up long term.

you could check the box to fill rosters with ghosts players. and hope the AI gives you pitchers. i'm not at my game computer, so can't recall exactly what tab that's under....

I think that's what it's called, but I can't find it anywhere!

BTW, your Oscar Charletson pic is cool. I went to the Negro Museum in KC a few years ago; what an amazing place.

The option is called "Allow incomplete minor league rosters".

About 3/4 down the page.
I would also check the roster after you fill it and if you really want this guy to just play the field I would use "Force Start" in Set Player Strategy to force him to the position you want.

If you're unwilling to use ghost players, just sign a bunch of teenagers to minor league contracts.

I've started to let the AI do whatever the f*** it wants with the minor leagues, now that the option to lock players to minor league teams exists. They sign and maintain a roster that's honestly 10 players short for me, but flooding the system with manually signed MnLFAs doesn't help, so it is what it is.

Maybe navigate to league settings/stats & AI/general AI roster settings to check how big the rosters are as well as how many position players and relievers are set for each team?
