Importing
Can you import a guy minus a year because want to import all the retired guys that have played on St. Louis Cardinals and put them on the Cardinals? Also unretired a recent retired guy won't retire right away but like Bob Gibson would if unretire him.

importing historical players is easy.. you can create a list in a file, if properly formatted, and that can do it en masse.
in general the baseball reference id is the same as the historical id (you can see it in any URL of a player and copy/paste. i don't do this, but you can find better instructions in forums. do a google search with "site:www.ootpdevelopments.com" appended. believe you pick the year? look at gui in game of import historical players (available actions from a free agent list for sure, and likely other player lists). may answer more basic questions, if i recall. that's where you select a custom list too... point it to completed file and bang, they are in the free agent list.. then you can select and assign to a team. |

Don't know if this will help, but I set up a two-team league, made up of an all-time AL all star team and an all-time NL all star team.
I used the player IDs from the "Master" file (located in the "Stats") folder. I then selected the player's best season. I also added another field listing either "AL" or "NL". This put the player on the correct team without having to go through a draft. Examples of the formatting are: aaronha01,1957,NL alexape01,1915,NL bankser01,1959,NL benchjo01,1970,NL berrayo01,1950,AL boggswa01,1987,AL brettge01,1980,AL carewro01,1977,AL These represent what I considered the "best" seasons of the careers of Hank Aaron, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Ernie Banks and Johnny Bench (National League) and Yogi Berra, Wade Boggs, George Brett and Rod Carew (American League). I've attached the text file, hopefully this will help you (and others) with formatting. It is not necessary to include a year or team in your data. File is attached, hope this helps. |

someone jsut replied to similar post in new to game forum --
can add team three letter abbreviation instead of NL/AL too. double check what the 3 letter abbreviation is. 3 or less, i guess, is more accurate. "leauge structure" will have that info. Last edited by NoOne; 10-08-2018 at 11:59 PM. |
