Excellent In-game Enhancements
After several OOTP baseball versions of only playing in online leagues (where in-game screens aren't used), I am playing out games in a newly created solo league .
I have noticed some excellent enhancements I had not yet experienced. Just want to give praise where due. Thanks OOTP 18 development team! Still the best sports sim ever in my (humble?) opinion! - 3D graphical action: WONDERFUL!!!!! Designed and executed very well! - Asterisks in the on-field player box to graphically indicate a new pitcher. Woo Hoo! - After pinch hitting for a pitcher, for example, in the substitutions menu, a pop-up immediately displays indicating that there is a problem with player positions. Excellent! (In prior versions, a more annoying, sometimes delayed, error window popped up at undesired timing). I am required to click on each pitcher and pull up the player page, in order to see the actual numeric percentage ready. - When player positions are not yet proper, in the substitutions screen, the game patiently waits until I have completed all changes and adjustments to my satisfaction, rather than popping up an error window at OOTP's timing. Excellent! Hoped for future enhancements: - Ability to view my depth charts and pitching staff assignments during a game. It seems this would be a relatively low effort enhancement that would make a huge difference for me. Of course, if I am playing out every game in a league and play every real-life day, I will more or less naturally memorize my depth chart, etc. However, in leagues I don't play every real-life day, especially when months have elapsed since I played a team, the depth chart and starting rotation are critical, yet unfamiliar and unavailable. My memory is far from perfect. This feature would be very helpful, if only to see the scheduled starting pitchers for the next few days (so I don't accidentally use one in relief). - Currently there is an icon indicating which players (especially important for pitching substitutions) are fatigued. However, for pitchers near 100% ready (maybe 80% to 100%), there is no icon, as if the pitcher is not tired. It would be really nice to be able to see the exact numeric percentage of fatigue for each player in the player list. - Volume control would be nice some day. When my starting catcher became slightly fatigued (98% rest status), the game removed him from my starting lineup, replacing him with my backup catcher, and sliding the backup catcher down to the 8th batting slot. This all happened without me doing anything other than choosing to play out a game.
Excellent! I don't remember this desired move occurring automatically in prior versions. In prior versions, I remember the tired starter remaining in the default lineup and needing to move the replacement backup down lower in the order where he belonged. |

Base running decisions are one of the most fun and exciting aspects of playing out games for me.
All of the pertinent information is presented to me right on the window from which I make my decision. This was not always the case in my memory. Excellent! |
