So.....How is the game selling?

I'm curious as to what OOTP5's sales numbers are. Especially in comparison with last year's release. I'll understand if the .400 team wants to keep these figures in-house, but I am certainly curious.

Main things to focus on:
I would bet, that due to the demise of STB, there were quite a few additional "first-week" purchases. However, I wonder how this will affect long run sales, when compared with last years OOTP4 + STB2k3.

How many purchases were made by people who actually ordered the CD? I wonder what the ratio of CD purchasers to downloaders is.

It seems like many of this board's participants are from Illinois and/or the midwest area. I'd be curious to see where the largest amount of purchases come from. It would also be interesting to analyze exactly why this is.

I guess these ideas aren't just pertaining to OOTP5. The sales numbers OOTP4 and Tournament Dreams are also of much interest to me. Anywhere online where these numbers can be viewed? I would love to do a little third-party analysis.

Interesting questions, but generally they've kept sales figures a secret.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Most of America has quit on baseball. Football and basketball appeal to more people nowadays, for certain reasons. I think that the Midwest is one of the few areas where people actually care about baseball.

Case-at-hand: I am in Philadelphia. People here bleed Eagles-green, care somewhat about the 6ers or the Flyers (though we know they'll disappoint us in the end ). I haven't heard *one* comment referring to the Phillies. And they're supposed to be somewhat good this year.
I believe Philadelphia is a good example of what Big City U.S.'s attitude is towards baseball. Feel free to disagree - just don't mention the Yankees

Steve, I think it's fairly safe to assume 3 copies of this game have been sold - I realize it might be a high figure, but I have a lot of faith in this game to eventually crack the 10 mark.....unprecendented I know, but very achievable.

I'm just messing around, we don't make sales figures public but the game is doing well.

NYC is baseball crazy! However, city people are mostly Met fans. Most Yankee fans come from outside the city.

I am not sure if it is regional, but I have always loved baseball. In recent years I have grown disgusted with the state of the game (I point blame to the owners *and* players). I do not think this has anything to do with me living in GA - I just grew tired of the crap.

With that said, the OOTP5 beta helped me find my way back to baseball *and* made me fall in love with text-sims. I had previously played Championship Manager, but it was more like dabbling. OOTP5 is truly a joy, which is saying a lot from a traditional console gamer.

Anyway, baseball had fallen off my radar - I still *followed* it and the Braves, but I did not really *follow* it if you catch my meaning. I love OOTP5 and I love the fact that I control everything about the game - custom leagues, fictional players, salary cap, no DH, and so on.

Anyway, long live baseball and OOTP!!!

I guess a similar question I have is: What is the marketing plan for .400 Studios? I don't want to get flamed, but I currently do not see any sort of marketing strategy whatsoever. I only found out about STB when browsing WallMart. There are a few reviews out, but not many. I know .400 is very small and probably very limited budget wise..... But if this game were marketed properly, I could envision it becoming a great selling game (then again, without sales figures, I could be wrong, it could actually be killing in sales).

I guess the way that I feel is that this game is so good that almost anybody could like it. I can imagine the commercials now.....

I think what white wolf said makes some sense. The stereotype of midwesterners is that we are laid-back, easy-going, simple people. The kind of people who can still appreciate baseball.

The stereotype of the Coasts is fast-paced, short-attention span, "I don't have time to watch all that standing around" (see Dodger games... come late, leave early. Sorry, LL, but it is a common sterotype )

I don't make the rules, I just follow 'em. So I say midwesterners are much cooler people in general, which is why we still care about the coolest game ever invented.

I'm an east coast guy, lived in New England(CRAZY SOX FANS AND YANKEE HATERS) I've lived in FL....no comment....and GA, near Atlanta which might not have as many fans as up north but the ones they do are hard core, at least the ones I've met.

I'm one of those true blue royal fans. But Sweeney is leaving us if we don't hit .500 in 2 years. My attention towards the royals might leave too if this happens.

Yeah, try living on the west coast.

NOBODY cares about baseball here. It really sucks.

Baseball

I lived Major League Baseball for about twenty years, and now I don’t follow it one bit, except for the main articles in the paper. It disgusts me. But I love baseball.

surprise

And it would be a surprise to see any non-public company disclose its sales figures.
