NCAA football thoughts - week 5
LSU is a good example of what happens when you fire a solid coach too quickly. Fans always think they should be doing better. In LSU's case, the fans were right about Les Miles. Here's the problem: Can you get someone in your program who can do better? Ed Orgeron isn't an upgrade. But the Tigers were "stuck" with him when they couldn't find a replacement w/the cache needed to satisfy alumni, boosters & fans. Now they are looking at a season that will leave them at the bottom of the SEC West. It is not enough to know there is a problem. You need to have the means to implement a solution to the problem. In all likelihood, LSU is going to be paying Ed, Les & a 3rd HC in 2018.........
........You had best believe Tennessee is going to be searching for a new head man as well. A 41-0 loss @ home is not the path to job security. There is nothing you can point fans to that will give them reason to believe patience is a virtue....... .......ECU is giving up 50+ a game. Penn St, Bama, & Georgia have yet to give up 50 pts total this year........ .......Why does college still allow the ground to cause a tackle?........... ......Exactly why is Bama still ranked above Clemson? Don't get me wrong, I think rankings are meaningless in October. But seeing as the Tigers are the defending champs & have beaten 3 ranked teams in their 5 wins, I would think their resume would top Bama 's 5 victories vs zero teams currently ranked.......... ......What happened to Marcus Lattimore?............ ........Is there any doubt Georgia is going to be playing Bama for the SEC title? The Bulldogs seem to be able to pull a future NFL RB out of the bushes whenever they feel like it. ....... .......My Tar Heels went into GT w/13 players lost for the year. Four WR's were out when a 5th went down & ended the game in street clothes. That's w/2 TE's & 4 OL also unavailable. I know at least 2 players on the OL weren't on campus before August. It's no wonder they could only manage 7 pts Saturday. I'm seeing the fan forums wanting to fire Fedora & mulling potential replacements. What do they expect the guy to do??? Please take a cue from what is going on in Baton Rouge. Carolina has a coach who has been relatively successful up til this point. What he is going thru is unprecedented. Nick Saban would have a couple of L's if this kind of catastrophe was to happen in Tuscaloosa on a roster whose depth chart was already depleted by graduation. I'm not Fedora's greatest fan. But I know it could be worse. Much worse. Fire Fedora when it is necessary. Not when he barely has enough to practice....... ......Wouldn't you have thought, with so many of the Big T1e4n teams ranked, somebody would have played somebody by now? We won't get a clash of titans until Penn St visits Ann Arbor on the 21st. Wisky has only one potential conference game vs a ranked team & that isn't until Nov 18th vs Michigan...... ......Looking waaaay too far ahead......I'm pulling for Washington & Wash St to be unbeaten when they meet. And did anyone notice South & Central Florida are both ranked & unbeaten? They finish the year vs each other.
