Trading draft picks

How do you trade draft picks? I want to trade some older guys for some picks, but I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

The game does not allow this.

I really hope this can be added.

Personally if it is, it has to be an option. Since draft picks are not part of real baseball, I wouldn't want to see it. One thing to keep in mind (my way of thinking anyway) is that the rookie draft is the only "stable" player input area a GM can't screw up. If your in last place and have traded away any decent picks for the next two years, there's no fan interest, almost no hope. Not a financially good situation to allow happen.

I just like the option. I like moving up in the draft, but I guess in baseball it is not that important. I would like to have the option if it is ever possible.

Why not have the option to have 4 outs in an inning instead of 3 while we're at it! I say if it's not in baseball, it shouldn't be in the game.

Come on, don't be sour. I just think it would be a fun option for online leagues to be able to trade draft picks. It is not part of "baseball" per se, it is a Major League Baseball rule. Baseball and Major League Baseball are not the same thing.

Actually, while I wouldn't change the number of outs per inning, I would like the ability to alter the lineups to only allow 7 players to bat (1 pitcher and 6 fielders). Of course I'd like to have 16 man rosters as well. Also, if there were any way to remove 1 base and play with only 3 that would help me out too.

Seriously, I've been trying to play an Arena Baseball League (similar to Arena Football), but the game is not flexible enough to allow me to accurately depict my vision of the league.

While I would never use the trade draft picks option, I say add it to the game as an option for those that want to simulate their own baseball universe and not be confined by Major League Rules.

No, they are not necessarily the same thing, but OOTP makes it a goal to recreate the genuine article (less the MLB licensing, of course ).

Then again...

Although I do agree with the previous posters who said if it's not in MLB then it shouldn't be in OOTP, we do give people the options of adding/changing the salary cap or to change the season length. These are also "tinkering" with the system, so the argument doesn't necessarily hold water with regards to the "purity" of the game.

With all that said, I still don't like the idea of being able to trade draft picks... but then again, I'm a purist.

I guess asking for a feature is automatic for sarcasm. LOL.

I don't see how trading a draft pick is the same as 4 strikes or three bases. These are things inherent to baseball. I'm talking about things only related to the BUSINESS known as Major League Baseball. The game has a salary cap (OOTP), MLB does not. Other Leagues (NBA, NFL etc.) allow trading of draft picks.

If you want to poke fun of me, please just post elsewhere. I'm trying to post a concern I have hoping the developers would put it in the game.

Please be considerate of others.

I just want it to be clear, I was not poking fun at you. Personally, I can't fathom why any one would want to trade a draft pick, but that's just me.

I'd never use that option, and as long as it is an option, then add it for those that want. The problem with adding this though, might be that it is an either/or thing that can not be toggled on/off. Then I'd be dead set against it.

Sorry if you were not making fun of me, that's just how it sounded. I'm sorry if you were not.

I agree it should be an option.

In one player, I might not use it. But in online leagues it would be neat, b/c a deal might be so close and then you throw in a 9th rd pick and the deal is done. Or something like that.

I would like to be able to try to move up or down in the draft. For example, if you had the 3rd pick in the draft and someone wanted to draft Player X, you can trade down to 6 (to get the guy you wanted anyway) and you pick up an extra 3rd.

I think it would be fun and add something extra to ammy draft.

Just my .02 cents.

William, there are some people on the board who can't handle criticism of the game. You just have to get used to it.

And that was just when people treated the game like it was their own child. Now that you can actually have children in the game? Look out!

Thanks Bears5122. I just did not want this thread to b/c a joke of me, b/c I'm new to OOTP 5 and I think it is great (I used to play Baseball Mogul). I just would like to see this option is all.

All due respect, that's not fair. William wasn't criticizing the game, he was asking for a feature, and he was rebutted with reasonable responses. What part of the responses wasn't reasonable?

I find your use of b/c to denote both "become" and "because" offensive. LOL

Seriously though, trading should be an option that can be toggled as it would provide Online Leagues who allow trading a built-in option and eliminate the work arounds they have to use at present.

Sorry, I'm not sure it came out the way I typed it. But then again, I was in a hurry so I prob. made the mistake. I just see a distinction between baseball and Major League Baseball. I don't see OOTP 5 has a sim of Major League Baseball as much as I do a sim of baseball. Hence, the salary cap option.

...anyway, I guess this thread can end now.

Many historical leagues allow the trading of draft picks. It is not an unreasonable request and I have heard it requested many times before. As far as the 'its not in baseball so it shouldnt be in OOTP' argument, how about the OOTP salary cap option?? There is no salary cap in MLB. How about the option to use the DH in the NL??? Thats not in MLB....
