What are The Best/Weirdest Names You Have Created For Your Players?

When i was a kid and playing on either Tony Larussa 3 or Hardball 2 I created players based on the streets around my house. Brandywine was the subdivision and they became the Brandywine Power in my Endor Baseball League. Not all the players i created made it to the majors.

You nailed it. That was the inspiration for the name.

Yeah, I love the names. My current game is a fictional league starting in 1871 and loosely paralleling real baseball history to form a sort of alternate universe. Before I started, I spent a lot of time working on custom name files to capture the flavor of the names from earlier eras. I used some of the real baseball nicknames from the years when ballplayers often went by their nicknames but also added in a bunch more of my own creation. (I also tried to get the proportions right so that there aren't too many nicknames.)

So, I don't create the names directly, but indirectly through the custom files. I've been pleased with how it's working so far. Here are some examples:

Pinky Payne, Bonnie McCormack and Ace Wilk are star players on my team at the moment.

Music Turnage and Footsie Topping were both quality pitchers from the last decade.

I liked Cosmo Good and Nip Thompson. One of the best players in my alternate history so far is Sippie Frates.

With a lot of these names I find myself speculating about the history of the players and how the names might have come about. Did Sippie Frates grow up in Mississippi? Perhaps Nip Thompson's dad used to call him the "little nipper" and that got shortened to Nip and the name stuck. Maybe Music Turnage was such a graceful athlete that it reminded someone of music and the name stuck. Or maybe he just plays in a jazz band in the off season. And so on. It helps bring the players to life...

I make players with latin names for simple things, like knuckle ball. Except i allow for lost in translation errors and grammatically incorrect etc for the sake of how the name sounds.. maybe even a slight adjustment.

knuckle and ball = Talo Pila, i just recently made that one. can't recall which is the surname.. both sound different to me. Pila Talo.
