Day-to-day injuries for several weeks?

I received the message that my player is listed as day-to-day, but the injury could sideline him 4 weeks??

In the last season I had a player with a day-to-day injury that would sideline him for 6 weeks ...

Come on, this is stupid.

When a team doctor checks the injury, he will never ever say "Oh, the guy is day-to-day, but I expect him to be sidelined for 4 (or 6) weeks."

This should be changed ... day-to-day injuries should be just that, day-to-day, and yes, the player definitely can miss a week or more if he suffers a setback, no doubt about it, but every team would put its player on the DL if there was concern that he'd miss a few weeks.

Probably better if they re-name day to day injuries to "nagging" injuries. Something a player can play through, but might affect them longer than a few days.

And no, not every team DLs a guy with nagging injuries. Guys play through them all the time.

except the thing about day to day is that you can still play him..... so he could be sidelined or he could not be. this is the one of the best developments in the game, think of how often you hear about players playing through minor tweaks and nagging injuries for an extended period of time. previously it was just all or nothing injured or not injured while this is far more realistic.

This is my favorite feature in 18. In previous versions when a player got hurt it was a no brainer - put him on the DL if he's out for x amount of days and move on. Now I have a ton of factors to weigh before coming to a decision and each case can be unique.

I definitely think this is an improvement, but as was mentioned above...what was really added are "nagging" injuries where we pretty much know how it is generally going to affect them, but they can play through it with some risk of making it worse.

A Day-to-Day injury should be just that...you don't know whether they can play each day. You come to the park, see how the guy feels and sometimes he can go and sometimes he can't. Maybe sometimes he says he can go, but really shouldn't. We should be evaluating both information from the player and the trainer to decide whether he is in the lineup...and we shouldn't specifically know when the injury will heal. It should be a combination of the severity, the players' ability to heal, the trainer's ability to treat and how much rest he gets.

Nagging injuries and DtD injuries are often one and the same, but currently they are only functioning as nagging. Again, a step in the right direction...but still quite a bit of room for improvement IMO.

I agree. Or take, for instance, the Houston Astros. Correa has been dealing with a nagging wrist injury for a couple weeks and they've been playing him. Now he's tweaked a thumb too. He's been day-to-day playing through the injury but now they may put him on the DL given their massive lead on the division. If they were more in danger of losing their spot they may try to keep pushing him, and their other players, to play. With the new injury system in OOTP you finally have to make the same decisions depending on your place in the standings.

Definitely just think of 6 week day-to-day injuries as being nagging injuries. I look to see how the injury is going to affect their play and if there's too many moderates there I'll send him to the DL. One thing I would like is, if it's a 6 week day-to-day and you send him to the DL for 2 weeks to rest up, the game shortens the length of that injury to simulate him healing due to rest.

This would be great.

To some extent, that does happen, although I haven't seen it with a DtD injury. I had a player supposed to be OUT 6 weeks and he came back in 4.

I mentioned elsewhere that I had a LF with concussion effects for 2-3 weeks. Benched for a few days, 10-day DL'd him, and voila! 100% I'm thinking it happens.

it also kinda does it already in reverse. at least for the more lengthy ones, the 6 weeks are the expected "time to heal" but if you play him through it you are likely to get an update that it will take more time than expected to be back to 100%. happened to me several times

And the risk of injury goes up.

Hmm, guess I haven't had enough scenarios yet to notice. This would be amazing if they've already implemented it. I've definitely seen the flip side where, if you try and play him, he could get another injury as a result or extended time injured. Anyone else notice the length of injury go down if you rest a player as opposed to playing him?

Yup-

I do like this feature. Day to day injuries can drag on and on if you continue to play him. I have seen players come back very quickly and suddenly be available if placed on the DL. Always case by case decision because as mentioned you can play them while hurt. I also consider it a " red flag " if a player does not heal quickly - -more often than not they later at some point get that season ending injury.

Really awesome that the game does this. IMO, it's the best new feature they've added in awhile.

Going back to my previous analogy with Carlos Correa, he is now out 6-8 weeks. They had him play through an apparent thumb injury he got on July 4th and now he has a torn ligament in his thumb. Beware playing guys through their injury gentlemen!

Ha! This!

it's probably still best to put them on the DL many of the times we think and belabor reasons to keep playing them

if it's a ~20% dtd and they are a ops+ if ~120, thats a 96 resultsing ops+ which is likely less than what you can find off the trash heap with way less risk involved. or take 20% off their expected WAR etc...

and i bet that's being optimistic as far as relating a % injury to results.

The diagnosis pending status for a player is the one I nearly always plan for DL placement. I 'think' I've been surprised a couple of times, but usually it's down for the count.

The only nagging DTD that's troubled me is the concussion. It's awfully easy to see the player injured again or setback with that one and I always rest/bench them at a minimum. Personally, I think the risk of injury dramatically increases playing with it.

Kinda like real life, eh? Wonderful job by them.

I absolutely love this feature.

I have a guy who suffered a DtD injury (sprained ankle) and was originally slated to be dealing with it for 1-2 weeks. I figured, not a big deal, I'll DH him for a bit, give him some extra days off, he'll be fine. One week in, I get an update that he's now going to miss an unknown amount of time. He still really hadn't been doing bad despite the injury, so I decided to keep pressing on, figuring I'd sit him down if his performance started to drop.

We're now a month removed from his initial sprained ankle, he's still DtD for an unknown amount of time, and even though I feel like I'm on borrowed time with him every single day, he's now got a 15-game hit streak going, so I really have no justification for DLing him. Dude is playing through injury and doing so well that I can't decide if it's worth benching him to get him fully healthy. It's super-immersive and one of the best updates in OOTP this year.
