Interesting Observation
I have a rookie player who I threw in at center field due to an injury early in the year. He had a high contact rating and is currently leading the league with a .335 average (135 games). That's great, but what I find interesting is he was unhappy in regards to his role on the team. He's 21 and wanted to play first base. His flippin' rating at first base was 16 (1-100). I use "old" guys at first base. I started playing him at first base around game 80 or so in the season due to some more injury juggling and kept him there. His first base rating is now 61. I haven't seen a player increase in defensive ratings that quickly before. It paid off for me to react to his "feelings". Love this game.

0 experience will read as a low defense no matter what their ratings.
you can tell by their range, error and arm how well they can be at any particular position. with 1b, also their height is a big factor. put the exact same ratings for a 5'8" and a 6'5" and you will see a huge 1b defensive rating difference. it doesn't take long to build experience... much easier if you do it in ST and during their MiL Career. if i have a guy that's ~1/2 scale range at 3b or somethign and concerned about it dwindling, i make sure he can also play 1b as a backup position. all of these decisions made when drafted based on raw defensive ability, never their overall defense at any particular position when drafted or even if they are traded for. i don't even mind them being a little upset during a switch... they get over it. What about his pedigree? Was he a highly rated prospect. Despite the good outcome from your POV it seems to me that unless CF was a position he had no business playing and/or his status was high a 21 year old should generally be happy to play. Imagine if Mike Trout had wanted to play 1B as a rookie. ![]() No criticism intended. I'm very interested in the nuts and bolts of this module.
