What'e The Point Of The Team Needs Function? Every email I get is a complete waste of time!

I figured there would be a thread on this already but, unless I used the wrong search parameters I couldn't find anything.

I'm wondering if the point of the Team Needs function in the league menu is just a useless feature of making the AI aware that you are looking to upgrade a position and nothing more.
EVERY email I receive from the AI GM involves a player I have no chance to obtain at the trade menu.

Even more comical are trade offers in historical sims with historical transactions off, I get emails involving HOFers in their prime: "I understand you're looking for a shortstop. I was wondering if you're interested in Derek Jeter? I believe he'd fill your requirements. If you're interested in making a deal, feel free to contact me to discuss the specifics."

Why does the AI even bother sending these emails if it has no intention of making a trade?

Again, sorry if this been brought up already.

It's been documented several times.

One thing I did as suggested by others was define the need.

Max salary reduces the superstar offers tremendously and minimum quality so you don't get the offers for scrubs.
My superstars are at around 15 million so that's why 6 million salary max.

I've been happy with the offers I have received since changing, way more reasonable.

You could further tweak the position setting if for example you have no need for a 1b or sp since you already have superstars.

think of it as an opening... you know they have interest in that player etc...

i have seen a worthwhile trade or 2... literally 1 or 2. however, i quit looking for quite some time, now... so it could be 3 or 4

i take a more proactive approach as far as whom i am targetting. so, i don't even read these emails anymore.
