editing pitching ratings
From time to time I like to incorporate 'what-if' scenarios, such as what if so-and-so hadn't been injured in [year] - how would the team have fared? So in order to come up with ratings for a player who, say missed a good chunk of a season, or simply performed poorly, I go to the previous and/or following season in OOTP to get their ratings. This seems to be pretty simple for batting ratings, but I am finding it nearly impossible for pitching ratings.
As an example, I want to see a healthy Johnny Podres on the 1964 Dodgers. So I want to use his 1963 OOTP ratings, which were based upon these numbers ("Resulting Stats... in a neutral environment..."): BF - 958 AB - 900 IP - 230.0 HA - 245 HRA - 19 BB - 54 HP - 3 K - 151 OAVG - .272 ERA 3.72 The fields in bold are calculated and cannot be edited. They can only be changed by changing other values above. The problem is, as much as I try to enter the editable fields to be the exact same number as the previous season, fields in bold do not cooperate. I can enter HRA, BB, HP, and K just fine. But then I cannot have both AB and IP = the 1963 values. If I input 900 for AB, IP changes from 230 to 229, and HA (a calculated field) changed to 230. And if I then change IP to 230, AB changes to 903 and HA changes to 229. It seems that no matter what, OOTP wants to keep OAVG somewhere around .264-.267. Why is this? And does anyone have any tips on how to get around what should be a simple process (like editing battings ratings seems to be)? Thanks in advance. |

If you're trying to edit them, I think they only reflect the year you're editing for in this case the 1964 Season since 1963 was the year before/last year.

Right, understood. In fact, that's exactly what I'm trying to do. Since Podres played just two games in 1964 due to injury, I want to plug in his 1963 stats so he would - presumably - perform in 1964 similar to as he did in 1963.

I'm going to guess you have him set with a different GB/FB rate than his other year, hence why it's not lining up. We use that to generate our baseline BABIP value, which is used to adjust the hits value. There may be a few other factors which can slightly alter the default BABIP that we use to calculate and display those values, but I'd think that G/F rate is the most likely one that might have shifted by enough to throw you off by the couple hits that you're seeing different.

Nope, that's not it. I wasn't sure what effects what so - at the beginning of this process - I screenied all of his '63 ratings and made all values the same - where possible. GB% remains 56% from '63 to '64 (I don't recall if I edited to be the same or if it was already).
