Spring Training Depth chart ignored?
In an online league, during spring training, I have my regular starters set to play every 4th game.
In 1 week, 7 games, with no injuries, most of my regulars (set to every 4th game) have generally played in 3 games each (43%). My 1B (set to every 4th game), has played in 4 games (57%). 7 days lineups are off, and I have full control of lineups, etc. |

So was Spring Training changed for v.18? Depth charts worked fine in v.17.
My backup catcher played 3 of the 7 games, despite being listed in the depth chart as playing every 4th game. Another team had a left-handed hitting firstbaseman play 2B 4 days. All with no injuries or 7-day lineups used. |

Due to the way we keep track of things, the spring training depth charts don't do things exactly as listed. I would be willing to wager that in previous years, during spring training, if you had a guy set to start 1/4 of the time, that he may not have started.
They were changed this year so that if you have a guy set to start 1/4 of the time, basically that changes to be a dice roll each game. So having a guy start 3 games out of 7 when he's set to start 1/4 of the time is well within the limits. During spring, the game is also a little more aggressive at sitting players who may be tired, or have dtd injuries (although you mention no injuries, so that may not be a factor). Over the course of the full spring, if you do have it set to the usual length of 4-5 weeks, I would expect the numbers to line up better with the depth charts, but a single week might end up quite different, just due to chance. |
