It pays to check ALL the player's ratings!
Occasional player for 2 years I am playing the real MLB setup with fictional players in 18.
After 7 years I expanded the league and took one of the (2) new teams (El Paso Sun Kings). In season 1 for them and with very little cash to spend my roster is looking very light-on so a 5 month injury to my ace in April was very unwelcome news. I needed to find the 'best' replacement for him fast from my 40 man and decided to compare a couple of reserve SPs outside the 25 man roster to the injured ace using the player comparison tab. It's seems by default set to 'batting ratings' so I get used to changing it to pitching ratings where appropriate. Imagine my surprise when one of the young marginal SPs shows up in that first screen with great (relative to my poor overall roster) batting ratings! Bourrage is an ok looking young pitcher (which is what his position was set to in the expansion draft where I got him) but when I change his position to DH his batting power immediately looks impressive. So lesson learned - I will trawl through my players (and draft/ free agents etc) in future to see if another hidden 'all rounder' gem can be found! Meanwhile I have acquired what just might be my best bat but progress on a replacement SP has not gotten too far! I expect most of you know about this but it was a surprise to me and so maybe it can help someone else improve their roster sometime. |

I'll have to keep an eye out for that!!
You mentioned a player comparison tool in your post. Where is that at??? I was unaware of that function which would help me out a ton!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You don't have to trawl through all your players. Simply choose a list of all the players in your organization, then set the sort to 'pitchers', then choose batting potential. Sort on 'Contact' and your better hitters will be on top.
Or do the opposite. Pick 'Hitters' and 'Pitching potential'. Sort, and look at the top for targets. I once was able to convert Minor League catcher into a top Starter this way. I find this works best in the late rounds of the amateur draft, too.

Leo's advice is sound, but if you want to compare players one-on-one, it's here on the top right of a player profile page:
