I think I just became a PK fan.

NHL desperately needs a Subban.
MLB needs more like Subban.

PK is a polarizing figure. Montreal fans loved him but his bright light may have bothered powerful people in one of the greatest franchises in sport. Separately hockey is still a collectivist environment often suppressing individuality with justification as talent does not always win at the highest level.

I'm always suspicious of this stuff. We see it in all sports where a sub-group of participants ie players, former players, media and fans become self-appointed "guardians" of the game and feel entitled to set rules for others who may not share their views.

Where were those people when Tiger Williams was riding his stick down the ice 30+ years ago.

Edit:

Let me correct the record. Just listening to John Scott. Apparently this quote is 2 years old and was made after a game. That certainly changes the context. To his credit Scott is not backing down but quite correctly he is objecting to the quote being represented as current.

I want more emotion, I love it when guys are invested and celebrate...however, double standard here is that I can't stand over the top showboating. There is a line between pumped about a big play and being disrespectful to your opponent.

Thanks for the clarification. I hate it when quotes are taken out of context.

Agreed. But I don't think showboating is being disrespectful to the opponent. When you get in the opponent's face, insult him, make fun of him, that's disrespectful. But being outlandish in celebrating just makes the boaster look stupid. I don't look at enough hockey to be able to say for a certainty. But the showoff things I've seen Subban do would be labeled typical celebrating in other sports.

The thing is, the NHL needs some individuality. I don't know why they bother to interview the stars. You could pick any player on any roster & get the same quote. Just in different accents.
