Pitcher didnt pitch but got the W
I had a guy warming up, but didnt put him in cause the other reliever was doing fine. After the top of the inning, I subbed him in so he didnt get tired in case I had to use him. We ended up getting a walkoff and the pitcher that didnt actually touch the mound got the W.

That's not a bug. That is how it would be scored officially.

Agreed. However, in real life, the substitution would not be made until the next half-inning. Maybe it should be coded so a pitcher will not tire out while his team bats, making it unnecessary to sub him early.

I agree with the non tiring, but the point he was making was it was buggy...which it's not. I think they said you can sit a warming pitcher for a few batters without it costing him warmth. |

whether or not the pitcher pitched or actually took the field is irrelevant, was the player reported to the umpire and there-by the official scorer as "entering the game" In this case, the game has to draw the line somewhere, if you put the guy into the lineup chart, as far as OOTP is concerned, you put the player in the game.
There have been plenty of RL Batters who have been reported as in and then after a pitching change, they were pinch hit for before he ever stepped into the batter's box. This is the same concept.

Possible workaround solution to prevent this thread from showing up again in a few months:
Dev team should prevent a player from entering at pitcher, or from switching defensive positions, while his team is at bat. |

once he's officially in the game, it's his in that situation.
it's the same as being called in... about to throw his first pitch, then catcher throws out the guy standing on 1st... he gets the win the next innigs because he's in the game... and he never threw a pitch, even if he's subbed the first batter of next inning. when you move him to "the" pitcher from warm-up slot, you are officially subbing him into the game... whatver signal they must give to the ump or whatever parlimentary procedure occurs, it is occuring in the game as you ordained. unless it's specifcally not allowed by the mlb, then it's not a bug. you just did something no other manger ever does.. no biggie. the less that type of thing is wrapped up into a cookie-cutter method, the better for all... that's why the game is so fun, bcause you have so much freedom while staying within the actual rules of the game. i would think the bullpen coach makes sure no one gets overworked, the manager doens't deal with this small stuff.. . when i played games out i jsut made it auto-warm , lol... that's for grunts to handle in the pen! really, only a completely disfuntional environment with incompetent coaches in RL can screw up a releiver warming up, lol. it's so mundane and repetitive, it's known, common knowledge etc, however you want to put it. it's a "given," because it's so easy Last edited by NoOne; 04-11-2017 at 07:51 PM. |

FYI, pitchers don't tire while warming up while you're batting. That being said, they might start tiring once the next half-inning starts, but if you plan to sub a guy in immediately at the start of the next half-inning, you can leave him to warm up and he won't be affected at all.
