What ratings do you guys use?

I use the default 20-80 but I'm starting to wonder if this is optimal.

It's a personal choice. There is no optimal setting. Simply stated a fine scale 1-100 20-80 allows you to see small differences between players. These differences may or may not matter. Coarse scales 1-5 2-8 hide those differences. The 1-10 scale is closer to coarse than fine.

New players should probably use fine scales initially. Coarse scales make you more reliant on player stats over several seasons.

I use 20-80 because that's how players and prospects are graded by Baseball America and I've just gotten used to it being that way.

1-10. Because it's what I've always used.

20-80 and players rated relative to position; if in minors/international rated relative to MLB.

I use 1-20. I've played other sports sims which use 1-20 for so long I can make a pretty good read on players immediately.

Would take me a while to get used to anything else.

I use 1-100, but have thought about switching to 1-20.

I use none displayed. No ratings. No bars... no stars... stats and text scouting reports only. I tried stats only several versions back and have never gone back. I find it much more challenging.

Thanks. I recommend anyone to give it a try. You don't need to start a new game. Just turn all the ratings off for a season or two and set scouting accuracy to normal or low. If it's not for you turn it all back on.

One thing I like about it is it forces you to really get to know the players and dedicate some real time to scouting and drafting. Plus it makes you learn what all the stats really mean. After that you will appreciate real baseball even more.

It does require a lot of homework though and there are those that argue it's not terrible realistic either since real scouts to use the 20-80 system. There have been some serious flame wars on this subject over the years. But I like it. I find it more engrossing and immersive.

I think that is cool. I have been thinking of doing something similar.

One thing to keep in-mind also is that I believe the bar graphs/stars supplement the fact that you do not have the type of in-person interactions, time and meetings with scouting staff, coaches, players, player game videos (At bats and so forth), etc…, that you would have in real life.

Question: you can just drop the “Stars” right? For me at least, that would might be a good fit. And then keep the 20 to 80 that Baseball America uses.

Absolutely. The beauty of OOTP is the degree to which you can customize the experience.

I use 20-80 but mainly because I don't like how the stars look. I would like to graduate up to stats only.

What rating scale you use has no effect on stars.

I used to use 1-100, but I have really come to like 1-20.

I personally play stats only, as I prefer the uncertainty. It's a bit easier to get better players as the human has an advantage over the AI, which tends to need the ratings as a crutch. But for things like working out the right time to promote, or which prospect to trade for, it's great to have the uncertainty.

1-10. I don't see the point of 20-80.
