Fictional League with Random Historical Players

I know I did this once but can't figure it out...

I want to create a 16 team fictional league but have an initial draft with random historical players from all eras (so Babe Ruth and Roger Clemens could be in the draft).

How?

Still trying to figure out how to start a fictional league with real historical players. The league creation wizard even says you can can create a fictional league and use fictional players or historical players but then gives you no option for either.

Has anyone done this?

Are you wanting to play random debut or do you want to personally dictate which historical players are in your league by importing them?

I've gotten into the habit of employing the historical league creation wizard to make a random debut league using 2016 settings. Then, once the game is started and prior to the inaugural draft, I use "Edit Structure" on the functions page to eliminate some teams and realign others. I do 16 teams and add in a AAA level and since the initial draft pool was for 30 teams I wind up with plenty of players and interesting teams. Just need to remember to generate new schedules after editing the league structures and whatnot.

Not sure if there's a simpler way. Probably is.

I want a fictional league (16 teams) and have the inaugural draft pool populated with random historical players from all eras.

Okay, then I recommend doing what Barkingturtle does. Since you want a 16 team league you can basically start using any year in history 1901 on. Simply use the historical wizard to create your league in the year you wish to start. Very important. Make sure you uncheck the box for historical expansion. If you leave the box checked, any changes you make will revert to history during the offseason. Once you've created your league, you can go to league settings and select edit league structure. From there you can remove teams, change team locations, assign team nicknames etc. You can add divisions and or delete subleagues as well. Just make sure you create a new schedule to go with any changes you make. If you created minor leagues, you will want to make the required edits to them as well. Or you may want to create your minor leagues after you've made your edits. I play with reserve rosters, so Barkingturtle may be of more help in that regard.

Just for info sake, the inaugural draft for random debut imports enough players for a 44 round draft. So for example if you start in 1978 and delete 10 teams to get down to 16 teams, your inaugural draft will have enough players for 71 rounds with a handful of undrafted players.
