Applying New Ratings
Generic Question.
When you import your 17 game into 18. Is there a way to rerate all players so they now have the new ratings in 18? If so, what happens to players who didn't get new ratings (Fernandez for example), would the game retire them? Along the same lines, what if a player now had ratings who didn't before, would he simply show as a FA? Any insights/how to's would be appreciated |

There is not a way to adjust an OOTP 17 saved game imported to OOTP 18 and then rated as OOTP 18. It is not a supported function, you could do it manually but that sounds like a full time job.
When you import 18 will tweak a few things. Usually OVR/POT is where I see it. If the mess with the importance of defense or adjust pitching a few players will seem to move up or down in value. The game will not retire Fernandez, in an imported game it does not follow the real world. Players will not be created as FAs that were not in OOTP 17 or were low rated in 17. It sounds like what you are looking for is to start a new game in 18. Good luck, Tom (LP)

what will happen is that if there are any differences in teh way playes are created... they will simply fill up your league slowly over the years and a new norm will be realized. auto-calc during any transition like this - it will keep your league statistics all within a normal range... after a complete turnover do as you normally would. if you start a leauge with real players in 2017, this is the same concept... the real players are not the same as the fictional ones that will eventually be created... the game comes with a few years of real amatuers, who are also different than fictionally created palyers for the same reason -- so, it takes ~30 years to transition with real mlb players, not 20. (30 years from game creation, not renewed when you import) the first few years and the last few years you won't need to auto-calc more than you typically prefer to do, if at all.... however as you progress through that 20 or 30 years, it will be wise to do it periodically. it's all about proportion of players in league, seeded vs created. as that changes your stats can get whacky, too. nothing affects the palyers during import... excluding a possible asthetic change. they may behave differently in the new game, but auto-calc will fix that, too.
