Alright, I've done a search on the whole Lahman issue, checked the FAQ's, and everything, but I'm still having troubles. I don't really want to start a historical league at this time, but I was interested in following through with someone else's idea of importing historical players at the end of my regular season, having them retire, so that I could induct them into the HoF manually, and all of their career stats would also be included.
However, when I import a player from the FA screen (all I've tried is Ty Cobb thus far) he comes in as a pitcher, with NO career stats. I've read everything about how the birthdates & fielding percentages are usually messed up and need to be edited, but I thought it included all their career statistics. I think I have the latest download of the database, and I'm running on STB 1.1, and the database is in an entirely separate folder from my STB folder. I've typed in the correct path to the database, and it actually does create Ty Cobb for the game, but as a pitcher & with NO career stats. What am I doing wrong to just import an individual player into a previously started league? |

You probably need to get the latest patch for STB, is what could be the problem. Give that a try and let us know what happens.

Well, I've already downloaded the latest STB patch, it reads 1.1 on my screen and everything. Do you HAVE to install the database by creating a new league before it will work regardless? I skipped right through the historical process when I first began the game, because I didn't know anything about the Lahman database at first, and now I've already begun a season that I don't want to erase. Do you have to import the year and then select the stats based on their entire career or remaining career, etc., just to have access to the importing of players?

Try using the database from here and see what happens.

That didn't work either. I performed the overwrite on the old database in a new folder as the documentation said, and then tried to import from database in the FA screen again and all I got was P - Ty Cobb with no career stats. Is the database meant to be used in a previously started season? I'm using Rolen's rosters & STB 1.1. Has anyone else in this situation encountered this? Are you supposed to do something at the beginning of the career mode to be able to import players correctly or are you supposed to be able to import a single player into any year (even 2002) at any time during play?

Do you have the latest patch from here? There has to be a conflict somewhere because the database does work with STB and allow player imports.
Check and see and let me know. BTW, where in TN are you located?

Hmm, well I seemingly neglected to mention that I do own the new STB 2K3 which is compatible with OOTP4 w/o the Challenge Mode and is on CD. I believe the STB 1.3 patch on that page is only for the first commercial STB release. I just thought that since STB2K3 and OOTP4 worked along the same exact lines as far as most add-ons and utilities, that I would have no issues here. Are there no technical STB2K3 users here who are having Lahman DB difficulties?
If not, that may be my problem I guess, and I'd need to wait on a future patch I suppose. I've just read through all the FAQ's that say to use the DB you have to use a "historical" season at the beginning, and it doesn't seem to give any clues on importing former players into the 2002 season so that I can retire them and induct them into the HoF. I live near Nashville by the way. |

Do you have the updated Lahman 4.5 database? If not that is why you are getting the quirks in the imports.
Just to let you know I live just north of Chattanooga.

The readme.txt file that comes with the Lahman database I downloaded reads Version 4.5, Release Date: March 26, 2002. So in other words, I'm incredibly lost on this, lol.
That's cool, I've lived in Knoxville as well, but not yet Chattanooga. |

Very strange, you might try re-installing the database in a new empty directory and see if maybe something just got messed up a bit somehow.

I noticed that when you import, the stats only go back 30 years, and ignores anything prior to that.

When it brings up the screen that says Ex. 1962? I've clicked 2002 (my current season) and all kinds of different years, but I don't ever get a player's CAREER stats. Are you supposed to input the year he retired? What are you supposed to input here? |

Just to update things, I've tried to import Hank Aaron and he's been imported as an OF, a SS, a P, and a 1B on different occasions. And I've gotten it to where it puts SOMETHING in his career stats, but it's only 1954 according to his player card. I really feel like I'm close to figuring this out, but I don't know what the missing elements are.
I have the following: 1.) STB2K3 1.1 (latest patch for STB2K3 2.) Lahman Database 4.5 (Mar. 26, 2002 release) 3.) Database installed in C:\STATS directory 4.) I downloaded the custom database file from www.boys-of-summer.com and made a secondary directory (C:\STATS2) with the database copied and the new files overwriting that. 5.) Using Rolen's rosters (and my own edits to this roster in 2002) 6.) Have yet to start a game. I did NOT begin my career under the historical mode box where I had to insert the database information, and select a historical year. I simply started with Rolen's rosters in 2002. 7.) Once in my career's FA list, I click on "Import Player From Database." It usually prompts me (after restarting the game) to find the path to the database. I type in C:\STATS2. 8.) I then type in the player's code (ex. aaronha01) 9.) I then type in the year. But I'm not sure what I'm SUPPOSED to type here to get his complete CAREER statistics. (2002? His final year? His rookie year? What?) 10.) It then processes it, and brings up the player on my FA list. In that case of Aaron, it has brought him in as all 4 of the positions mentioned above. It either gives NO career stats, or one line of career stats (in 1954, for MLN according to the game), but not an entire stat list full. No ideas whatsoever here? |

So I just clicked on the position box and he is a CF. But, I typed in his final year as a player and all of the career stats imported except for the year played(which is how the game is designed. The game is assuming you are going to "play" the year you import him for. I am now going to try the same using STB2003.

Wait, if your game says version 1.1 you don't have the most recent STB patch. Mine says 1.3, you need to go here and download the latest patch which is 1.3 and then try to import the player.

If he cannot figure it out this morning, I was about 50% finished last night when I had to get to sleep. (4AM comes VERY early these days) I anticipate being able to finish this up sometime this afternoon and would be happy to post the file upon completion.

But today it clearly says 2003 up there, lol. BUT, to get to the point, the new patch makes everything work like a charm. Players import with their career stats & everything. THANKS!!! |

New question, lol, why is it when I import Cy Young into my game (typing in 1912, the year after he retired) does it output that he had a career 518 wins? He only had 511, right?
