Historical Player ratings

So, haven't played the game much the last few years with historical players. I'm wondering why Brooks Robinson imported so poorly. A setting that makes real rookies random?

He's only 17. ReCalc on and he will progress. ReCalc Off and it is a crapshoot.

I don't have ReCalc on. So, he's likely to stay this way. We'll see.

What was the setting for "base potential on"? Even without recalc his potential ratings shouldn't be that poor when he's imported, should they?

Yes, they should or else bucket loads of 17 year olds would flood the MLB. Potentials and currents both can rise as the game amasses more data. The AI does not peak into the future.

Why would they flood MLB if their current ratings are trash? That doesn't make any sense.

And does that mean the setting to base potential on remaining peak seasons of career is a lie? OOTP can't do that without peaking into the future.

How and when did you import Robinson? I started a standard Historical league with historical minors league in 1954 ran it until the draft pool was revealed, which was Nov 15 1954.(Only thing I changed is rating system to 1-5 to match yours) And this is the Brooks Robinson I got

I notice your Robinson is 40 days earlier than mine, so I'm guessing either you changed a setting or just got a bad draw or imported him individually and used settings that caused it

Responding to myself because I just realized that the base potential on remaining peak seasons option is only available if recalc is on, which as you said makes a huge difference.

Imported the same time you did. I'll have to look at how he was imported. I don't think I changed any of the defaults other than to turn off the amateur draft.

Ok so your import just put Robinson on the Orioles instead of the rookie draft, be interesting to see how this pans out, that may very well be the culprit (bug) hopefully we'll get this sorted out

"It all depends in what mode gamers import their historical season. If it is in replay mode, then one scenario happens (because the ratings are based on a short time frame). If they import it in career mode, then talent ratings will be okay, more as expected. And if gamers want him to get proper actual ratings later, they need to enable ratings re-calculation, otherwise he will likely not develop to his talent."
