Suggestion: Option to ban certain nationalities from a league

(I know this should technically go in the suggestions forum, but it seems I'll get a better response here.)

Right now, the only possible foreigner restriction is on the number of foreigners in a league, and each team can only have one nationality set as "non-foreign". Also, affiliated leagues can't have foreigner restrictions.

This leads to trouble with the Dominican rookie league, because in real life it (more or less) doesn't allow Americans. Allowing certain nationalities to be banned from a specific league, including affiliated leagues, fixes that problem.

As Ive said elsewhere, this would also allow you to, for example, ban S. African players during Apartheid, which a few sports did.

Lets not make political comments here please. this is a baseball sim forum.

I completely agree that we need this feature. Draft eligible players from USA and Canada are not eligible to play in the DSL. It's very unrealistic to see the DSL filled with them. I would take either the ability to create a custom region or being able to disallow certain nationalities.

A third option would be auto regions that got down the baseball quality level. We currently have them go up, like baseball quality 4+ nations, but we need a 4-. What we could then do is set baseball quality 5 for only USA and Canada, and set the DSL region to 4-. That would be an easy alternative.

Doesn't fix the DSL problem, because the league still has to have a nationality set even if the team locations are set to a region.

It absolutely would work. When you restrict players to league nationally, it looks a regions first

It devolves very quickly on the interwebs. Quarantine is a good policy for politics.

Learning to laugh is a good policy for life though isn't it? The world needs more laughter and baseball, lots more baseball, like everyday baseball.

Baseball is life.

Oh please. Don't act like it was an innocent joke. It's obviously aimed at a certain direction.

This is what happens when you insert political comments. The thread goes way off topic.

It was an innocent joke mate, I'm an Aussie I couldn't care less about politics. You do come across as a bit of an forum troll though.

Anyway I agree with OP, would be cool to have an option or rule like that in the game.

Understood. To be fair, probably shouldn't comment on American politics then. They must also have a different definition for an internet troll down in Australia.

I thoroughly agree with your original sentiment, but jpeters is far from a troll.

Maybe his not, but I've only had communication with him in two threads and both have been negative, unwarranted and self righteous.

Soooo that's all I can really go off.

Also anyway! Let's get back on track and talk about the OP.

lol, can't really get back on track yet when things are said about me. Which is why certain topics should be left alone regardless of intent. It has nothing to do with self-righteousness. There's a large segment of the US population that is just sick and tired of politics being in our faces all the time. I just want a baseball sanctuary. This is a baseball forum after all. I'm not sure why that's negative or self righteous.

I probably could have just left it alone and we wouldn't still be talking the politics of no politics, but then maybe more comments would be posted elsewhere. Sorry if I offended you for not liking your joke. I have no idea what the other thread you referenced was about but sorry for that as well.

Back to baseball.

You can already do this in OOTP. Last part of the world_default.xml is the "World All" region that has every country listed. Copy paste that region, edit it to:
Code:
<REGION id="81" sort_order="1390" name="DSL Qualified Players">
Then remove the nations of 4 36 79 151 202 206 229 , which is the US, Canada, and the territories.

After you edit, you can go in and just go into the database part of the settings and reload the world_default.xml file, and you'll see the new region to set for the DSL.

Like what was said above, the region is what foreign players are determined from, so this will allow everyone except US/Canada/Territories.
