expansion

I ask this every year, I might be the only one who cares!!

Is it too late to add to v18 a realistic expansion draft? The last bunch of expansions have been set up so that each team protects a certain amount of players (usually 15), then they lose 1 player each in round 1, then they pull 3 more back. I'm not sure why the game doesnt' work the same way.

I'll buy it either way, or course!!

You've got the 15 that you can protect, and then you can set it up so each team also auto protects players with less than X years of service time in the show. There's an option for no auto protect, or players with less than anywhere from 1-6 years of service time. Having never done an expansion draft before, I'm not sure if the game includes these auto protect guys in the 15 count, or if they are in addition to the 15 that you are protecting. I would think the ability to pull three back might wreak havoc with the AI, but I am no computer programmer.

I'm guessing it does mess up the AI, or it would have been fixed by now. the AI managed teams make lousy protection decisions. So, say you have 2 mediocre catchers, the real life strategy would be to protect neither. then, if 1 gets picked, you immediately protect the other. but, the game doesn't work like this.

I end up doing a draft protecting 15, with each team losing 1 player. I then start a new game, protecting 18, where I first trade the chosen players to the expansion team. Then I do it a 3rd time. its a lot of work....every time you have to go thru and make sure the AI made smart decisions.....they are very bad at prioritizing. I've tried using scouting at 100% accurate, thinking that better scouting info would lead to better AI choices, but it usually does not.

it's a huge pain. I import and export rosters between rounds instead of doing actual trades. What really takes forever is stocking up a minor league system that gives the expansion team some talent, as opposed to just creating filler players.
