Best time for expansion draft?

I would like to do a MLB quickstart and simulate one year then expand the lg by two teams and take control of one. When is the best time to do an expansion draft in the offseason? Before or towards the end of free agency?

Am i correct in thinking id have a better expansion draft list if it was towards the end of FA signing? If i did it before would there be a lot of players with expiring contracts?

Also is there a schedule format I can download for interleague play with 32 teams?

If you look at real life expansions, the last couple of expansion drafts were in mid-November. So that from that what you will.

As far as schedules, check out the mods forum. I'm sure you'll find a schedule for whatever format you choose.

I always do the expansion when the world series ends and the game will schedule the expansion draft right after free agent file. This give the expansion teams plenty of time to fill up their minor leagues.

I conducted mine right after the arbitration period ended.

I also always schedule mine the day after free agents file. I feel this gives expansion teams the best chance to know what their needs are and still have a fair chance at free agents to fill them.

I do mine the 1st day of FA. This way teams do not need to protect expiring contracts and it gives the new teams a chance to sign th best FA.

i think generally they only happen after a league expansion. but i could be wrong.

It's the way we did our online league expansion, worked out well.
