Draft pools

I searched the forums for this but didn't find an answer.

I'm in year 4 of a historical sim as the Dodgers - started in 1977, which was my favorite team growing up. This was my first go around with OOTP 17, so I've learned a fair amount over the course of this sim.

What I'm looking to do is plan ahead for upcoming drafts. Unfortunately, the players in the OOTP draft pools don't align with the actual MLB draft pools. For example, Cal Ripken was originally drafted by the Orioles in 1978, but he didn't show up in the OOTP draft pool until Dec. 1980.

So what I'm wondering is...has anyone ever kept track of the draft pools in OOTP 17? I'm considering dumping some salary for draft picks if the pool merits it. But without really knowing who is in the pipeline, I'm hesitant to do so.

Any ideas??

Because OOTP uses the Lahman database, it goes by when the players make their MLB debut. Since you have your draft in December, and Cal's big-league debut was August 1981, it stands to reason that he would be in that draft pool.

If you are looking for players to be eligible when they make their pro debuts, you'll need to either enable historical minors or use Spritze's database, which has the pro debut information.

Regardless, you'd need to start a new game, which you might not want to do.

I realize looking back that I didn't really answer your question. I mean, I sort of did but in an oblique way.

If you want to plan ahead, it's very simple. The December draft pool will contain players who made their real-life MLB debut the following year. So the December 1981 pool, for you, will contain the players that made their real-life debut in 1982.

Happy planning!

Just move Draft to January. Another problem is Feeders Leagues/Draft Classes should include Historical guys becuase I have it 1873-2015 but only Fictional ones show.

If his draft pool is showing up in December, then that means the draft is already in January since the pool shows up one month prior....
