GM Goes Crazy?

Hello everyone, I have had an interesting couple of days in my league. I started off as the manager for the St. Louis Cardinals in manager only mode. I played a couple of months like that and then switched to GM+Manager and played like that for about a month. Now I am in July and I just switched back to Manager Only Mode. In the first day in manager only mode my GM traded away my best pitcher, Adam Wainwright, for a minor league prospect and cash. Then the next day he traded away my best reliever, Trevor Rosenthal, for a minor league and cash and then finally on the third day he traded away my best hitter, Stephen Piscotty, for a minor leaguer. Keep in mind all these minor leaguers are in the lower levels and don't have high potential.

Is this a bug or something? It doesn't seem likely that my GM should try to gut my team like that.

Maybe he's mad you took away his job for a month?

J/K... I don't know, seems kind of fishy to me

Unfortunately, this has happened to me multiple times as well. I love the concept of manager-only as I would prefer to just manage the games, but for some reason the GM seems to make trades in this mode they never would otherwise.

I have even tried making my GM "200" for all ratings to see if that affected the trading decisions, to no avail. If someone knows a trick, I would love to find out. The best mode I have found so far is to make myself GM/MGR, but give control over everything but cutting players and trades to the assistant GM.

Anyone have additional thoughts?

At this point he has traded away Adam Wainwright, Trevor Rosenthal, Stephen Piscotty, Carlos Martinez, and Kolten Wong. All for minor league players who are not highly rated and the best one is playing in the New York-Penn League. Everyone else is in lower leagues. One of the players we traded for was suspended for 352 games.

It's sad because this is the longest I have ever made it into a single season. I'm going to have to restart now. I'm hoping that I won't have this issue again. I think it might be because I switched from Manager Mode to both and then back to Manager.

Hopefully my next one doesn't go so poorly.

EDIT: All those trades occured within a week so far. I still have a couple of days left before it is a full week. I'm not continuing to see who he continues to give away for free.

Two thoughts...(and knowing where you are in the standings is a legit question and might help explain his moves, or make this even more bizarre).

1) Maybe the GM can see the "real" ratings of the prospects for which he's trading and they might actually develop into studs?

2) Keep going just to see if he ends up firing you to close the circle?????

I'm assuming STL is your favourite team, but maybe you could land a better gig elsewhere?

Well I did turn on "Can't be fired" for myself so that won't happen. Maybe I'll turn it back on and see how it goes. I was in 4th place in the NL Central at the time on a 10 game losing streak when the trading started. It went as bad as 12 games and then went into a series with division leading Pittsburgh and won 2 out of 3. Yet, the trading did not stop. I was still over .500 as well. I think my record is around the 43-40 region.

Maybe I'll turn it on and see if they fire me, like you said I can just move on and manage another team.

Why not enter commissioner mode and undo the trades?

I really wish there was an option to have all trades go through a commissioner's "office" for approval so you could avoid this type of thing for your team or opponents.

I'd also checkout the Budget of the team and ensure that you aren't in the red
