woa, what hapened?
I started a new league using the mid-season rosters that are listed in the ootp4 forum.
I dropped florida and tampa bay. I proceed to sim out the year. About halfway thru the season i realized bonds was on pace to hit 140 homers. I stopped the sim to see what was up. At this point he already had 820 plate appearances. I checked the league schedule and saw 2 new teams ive never seen before..... AL Allstars and NL Allstars. Some how, the game decied to play these 2 teams in the place of tampa and florida. Since Bonds is obviously an all-star, hes been playing for the NL Allstars.. all year long...against 'normal' teams. But both of these teams arent listed in the league standings. How the heck did this happen? Whats going? crazy voodoo. My question is, WHY??? |

The schedule was set for 30 teams... you cut two so there were 28 total teams in the league. When the All Star game was played the teams are given temporary team numbers that are after the value of the number of teams in the schedule. Typically for a 30 team league they'd be teams 31 and 32... but since you killed 2 teams they became teams 29 and 30. Since you didn't generate a new schedule they filled the empty spots on the schedule that originally belonged to teams 29 and 30. This caused the schedule issues. Which in turn caused you standings issues. You also created an odd number of teams in each league. Which would have caused you problems when you tried to generate a schedule. Rules to remember when editing league structure. After editing you MUST generate a new schedule. You must have an even number of teams in each league for the OOTP internal scheduler to work. (You can hand schedule a league for an odd number of teams and it should work) |

aah, thanks Scott.
I initially removed TB and Flor., then added 2 new teams in their spot. At that point i did generate a new schedule But shorty after, i decided on removing the 2 new teams. Now i remember i didnt generate a new schedule after i removed the 2 new teams. The game was still operating under the 30 team schedule and also why i never crashed the game when trying to generate a schedule for a odd number of teams. I have one more question... After i dumped the florida teams, i added 2 new ones, Portland and Washington. I was hoping on setting all teams to CPU controlled and let the CPU sign free agents for Washington and Portland. But i couldnt get the CPU to do so. Thus the reason for taking Portland and Washington back out of the league. Is there some way to get the cpu to sign FA's for these 2 empty teams? Im assuming no, since technically to ootp, the FA signing period has ended. I figure my only option is to play out one full season, and then remove TB and Florida and add Portland and Washington before the free agency signing period. Is that right? thanks again! |

or you could generate AAA and AA players for the new teams in the first year and turn it over to the CPU and they will call up the players they need for the first year, probably sign a few players out of the FA pool during the year as well. |

If the teams exist during a normal free agency period (as described above) the expansion teams will sign free agents. You'll want to give the newly created teams some cash to allow this. But its a delicate balancing act to find out the right amount of cash to give, because you don't want to give the team enough cash to allow them to sign every big name free agent.
Personally I use the fill a level or two of the minors to fill the rosters for my expansion clubs. |

How funny is this when I decided to do expansion in my league I used the same two teams. What you need to do is edit their finances. Make sure that they have money to sign free agents!!

I simmed thru the season with the florida teams dropped, unfortunately alot of good team grabbed the florida players from free agency, i should have waited to drop the teams from florida until i pressed the button for the following season. oh well, no biggie, i kinda like having those players dispearsed instead of all of them being on the 2 new teams. I gave Portland and Washington a overall all cash base of 29,500,000. Not much, but i didnt want to have 2 contenders right off the bat. I simmed most of the season out, but then realized both the new teams were really hurting, Washington had 17 of 25 players and Portland had 19/25. I restored my preseason backup and filled the AAA clubs for teams with fictional players (blech). All should be well now, cept both teams called up a bunch of foolios i dont know. *crosses fingers for full expansion/contraction/expansion draft support in ootp5* Anyone have some suggestions on a good starting cash base for an expansion club? I used 29,500,000. That seemed to be alright, but both teams ended up with under 19 players. That wasnt a money issue though, the league just ran out of FA's. |

What I did was start with a 40,000 cash base. Edited market size to help teams out. Since expansion teams, fan loyalty should be high!! I filled A ball with fictional players. Then held draft with those two teams getting the first couple of picks. Then I helped them to sign one superstar in free agency!!! Then I left them on their own. When the other teams ran out of money, they started to sign free agents. Still their choice on talent was not that great. But that is why they are EXPANSION!!! Hope this helps!
