Open a copied league?

What I've done: Created a complicated league.

What I hope I've done: Copied the league to a different folder (for example, to My Documents\ComplicatedLeague)

What I want to do: Edit the copied file based on results on running the league

But from the game I go to "Load Game," navigate to "My Documents," but what file do I latch onto? They are all *.dat files.

So I guess the question is: How do I load a game from the "Open Folder" button in the interface?

This sounds similar to the situation that I tried to help another user here. The main file appears to be world.dat but I just tried it; you cannot just Open Folder, navigate someplace else, and choose world.dat. If my experience is valid, you will get an error message.

In that other post that I linked to above, I advised that guy to move his game folder (e.g., MLB.lg) into the saved_games folder where the program is showing as "Path to game folder." In your case, if you do the same with your copied "ComplicatedLeague" folder, it should then show up as one of the selections in Load Game.

Just as a test, I copied Test Game.lg to my desktop, renamed it to ComplicatedLeague.lg, and moved the copy into my saved_games folder (first screen print). Now, when I go to Load Game, it shows up as a selection to choose (second screen print).

By the way, you say you want to "Edit the copied file based on results on running the league." As you may have realized, the data is mostly contained in various .dat files which, unless you are a programmer, maybe the programmer, you are going to find it difficult or impossible to edit. There are ways to customize your league and the game itself; see the online manual.

All leagues are contained in a folder called "league name.lg".

You can't open a league ("league name.lg") from the Open folder button because that button opens up your file manager externally ie not in OOTP. What you can do is create an alternative path to league files but keep in mind that must be changed in game settings/expert/custom data path. See attached

Thank you both so much! I tried the first approach (rename and copy it into the saved_games folder) and it worked like a charm!

"There are ways to customize your league and the game itself..." That's actually what I meant. :-)
